About

I am a PhD student at the University of Michigan studying Paleoanthropology. What's that? Basically I study human evolution and strive to be an academic my whole life. I get to travel and play in the dirt, and when I am home, I teach and think too much.

1. #101 to those dropping in from MySpace. I still like to copy off Erik.
2. I am currently trying to plan my trips to Tanzania and Germany this summer and my return to South Africa in January.
3. Generally you don't see that kind of behavior in a major appliance.
4. Just when I thought looking for a new place for next year couldn't get any worse... people suck!
5. I am going to go watch Strongbad emails to make myself feel better.
----> my favorite <----
6. I used to be a genius, but now I only have very superior intelligence. Seriously.
7. There's a light at the end of the "grad school tunnel"... and it's scaring the shit out of me!
8. In 26 years, this is the first time it has snowed on my birthday! This sucks!
9. I need to learn to trust my instincts more.
10. There's this really odd, scary, terrible feeling that I have only experienced once before. I hope to never experience it again.
11. I really like a lot of things, like seriously passionate about them. And I realize that I will never be happy if someone makes me narrow that down in any way.
12. Someone reheating french fries in a microwave produces one of the foulest odors that I know.
13. I just realized that when I am in Tanzania I am going to be in the Serengeti....that sounds so much cooler!
14. I never really thought that I was going into a dangerous profession, but apparently college campuses aren't exactly the safest places to spend your time. Add in travelling to South Africa.... wow, I hate guns.
15. The red was a little hard to read.
16. Reading the personals on Craigslist is absolutely histerical!
17. I took the best nap on my porch today.
18. Last night I had to use my finger to wipe eye makeup off my eyeball....black liquid eyeliner can be tricky!
19. INSPIRATION = (caramel frapaccino + stuffed capuchin monkey)(from Starbucks)
20. I always consider it fortuitous to hear the Counting Crows on the radio when I am out and about. It has a strange calming effect on me, like someone telling me everything is going to be OK.
21. Add Aarhus, Denmark to my summer plans...I am going to present a "professional paper" there in August!
22. Sometimes when I look in the mirror I shake my arms in the air to check to see if they jiggle. They don't.
23. In order to get my residency permit for Tanzania I had to send them a copy of my high school diploma. I'm surprised I even kept the damn thing.
24. My defininition of "fun" does not match everyone else's. I will probably marry the guy who shares the same one I do.
25. I'm exhausted, and I havn't done anything for 4 days.
26. I really want to be friends with an artist, like a painter. I really like art, but I refuse to buy/hang anything that I can't tell a story about, it needs to be really personal. As of now I plan to decorate my future home with my brother's photography, but I would like to have a mix of media throughout, so I have about 10 years to befriend a painter.
27. If that's what you want, then I can't help you. We all need to grow up sometime.
28. SBlounskched!
29. I leave for Tanzania in less than a month and I feel like I have so much to do. What do I do then? Oh, decide to take a 10 day canoeing trip in the Bounday Waters! I leave Friday, it's gonna kick ass.
30. Karaoke started off really slow tonight so I instated "early 90's night" where I didn't sing well, but instead sang tributes to all the bands I love from then that shaped my musical tastes. Included were The Black Crowes (Twice as Hard), The Counting Crows (Round Here), Green Day (Longview), Our Lady Peace (Clumsy), and I ended the night with The Offspring (Self Esteem). It was fabulous!
31. How I just got addicted to these guys, I'll never know!
32. ha, I just typed the 32 for the list and it sparked the memory of when my brother had JIMBO 32 as his license plate. It was the lowest number available.
33. I got a 100% on my written exam for remewing my license today. I think I should get a "get out of one traffic violation free" card because of that.
34. I just searched for some lyrics online and every page said something a little bit different....what are they actually saying!?!
35. My brother and I are the champs at long distance marshmallow toss and mouth-catch (I play receiver).
36. " My Sharona" is huge in Chile! Or so I hear.
37. I can update my list for the first time in a month since I am locked out of my hotel room at 5:45 a.m. in Dar es Salaam. It was mostly my fault.
38. Indian "strip clubs," if that's what you can call them, are very bizarre. It was quite the cultural experience though.
39. It was amazing how common zebra and gazelle became to me since I saw them all the time. I saw almost as many giraffe, but they will always be exciting.
40. One month in a tent really wasn't that bad.
41. Buffet dinner options: rice, spaghetti, porage, chips, goat.
42. Eggs come in cartons of 10 in Germany.
43. My tan has already faded considerably. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing because I had some scary tan lines goin' on!
44. Facebook is a terrible site! I started an account because that's what my Canadian friends had, and it is absolutely 100% the worst networking site ever created. Why it is so popular, I have no idea.
45. I don't get butterfly tattoos. Not that many people can have a close personal connection with a symbol of a butterfly! Just put it on the center of your lower back and call it "I have no mind of my own."
46. I have no shame.

49. My laptop is in Germany to be a really big MP3 player.
50. Life is truly a balance...I had the worst day of my trip two days ago and then yesterday (and now today even) turned out to be pretty awesome.
51. It's nice to know that the stuff I have been studying for years and years of my life is finally starting to stick!
52. I don't think it's possible for me to label something as "the most important thing in my life." Everything has its role, and without it I'd be less than I am right now, but it doesn't mean that void wouldn't get filled by something else eventually.
53. Damn Okkervil River for releasing their new album while I am in Germany!!
54. It was by accident that I ended up going on a canoe trip with my brother in May. Now, after spending two weeks with me there, he likes me. Maybe now I will get invited on the next trip right away!
55. I love how my flickr photos look on this page right now. Makes me not want to upload any more so it won't change.
56. There's never any time!

Yeah, it seems we don't karaoke enough this year. Our shooting schedule has flipped so we're usually doing it on Sunday. This leaves little room for rocking out before the work week begins anew. - Joel
