My musical tastes range from classical, depending on my mood at the time, to pop from the '50s and '60s, light rock, swing, Big Bands, some jazz, ballads, easy listening, and Southern gospel. As stated, all depends on my mood at the time. If I'm down, I want to be lifted. In an improper frame of mind, I much prefer silence.
I was a television fanatic for about the first 40 years of my life, and I then began backing off, preferring much more the early television shows which were coming out on dvd, a few of the home-and-garden programs, and some History Channel offerings. I'm not a devotee of most sitcoms, no game shows, talk shows, no reality t. v., or Food Network.
As a former teacher of literature, I am, of course, devoted to the classics, though in recent years, I've gone from devouring loads of biographies (about a decade's worth) to a real appreciation of good crime-and-mystery novels. I'm devoted to Agatha Christie and Caroline Graham. No books on politics or from die-hard pragmatists who have the solution , thank you.
My activities have purposely been curtailed since retirement. I was tired all those years of serving on boards, attending meetings, and generally being a fixture. Since retirement, I have continued my church work as pianist and serving on various boards within the church. My only outside activity is Sinfonia Music Club, of which I am currently serving as an officer. We meet monthly and have an invited guest performer followed by a gala reception. Other than that, I've learned to say, "No, thank you!"
