I seem to have a new song each week or two, one that seems to speak directly to my heart. That song this week is "In Christ Alone." This song defines Christianity to me. I listen to it over and over celebrating where God has rescued me from and where He is going to take me. I think about the people I know that have crossed over from death to life. I think about the people who don't know Jesus and wish that they would realize they are at rock bottom and that it would just hit them square in the face why they can't find peace. I wish I could tell every single one of them "In Christ Alone." As I listen to this song I know that it is referring to specific Scriptures but I can't quite put my finger on them. So, I've decided to write out the lyrics and look up the Scriptures. I did this for me as much as anyone that might read this blog, because I need to be reminded "In Christ Alone." But I split it up into a few verses each blog so that its not a novel.
"In Christ Alone"
IN CHRIST ALONE MY HOPE IS FOUND
HE IS MY LIGHT, MY STRENGTH, MY SONG
THIS CORNERSTONE, THIS SOLID GROUND
FIRM THROUGH THE FIERCEST DROUGHT AND STORM
IN CHRIST ALONE- ("I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.")
MY HOPE IS FOUND- ("In His great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can NEVER perish, spoil or fade -- kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time." 1 Peter 1:3-5)
HE IS MY LIGHT, MY STRENGTH, MY SONG- ("But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast al the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:7-9)
THIS CORNERSTONE, THIS SOLID GROUND- ("So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: 'See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.'" Isaiah 28:16)
FIRM THROUGH THE FIERCEST DROUGHT AND STORM- ("At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength." 2 Timothy 4:16-17)
