Due to the recently stifling heat, I decided to run this morning before work. It is SO much more enjoyable. I can actually run the whole 5 miles without walking at every...mailbox! Anyways, I ate breakfast after my workout and went on to work. At 10:00 a.m. I had to eat my apple (intended to be my afternoon snack) and now, at 10:30, I am already hungry for lunch!! I worked hard this morning and I worked up an appetite for lots of food!
As I sit here, anxiously awaiting our catered lunch in a couple of hours, I can feel the Lord speaking to my heart. Yep, he uses the simple things. He doesn't always make me look deep into Scripture to learn a lesson, sometimes he just uses the small details in a day. He's revealing to me the source of my decreased appetite for Him. He's gently rebuking my heart, telling me "you will find that appetite if only you would expend a little more energy in My name." I am receiving this well because a.) For the rest of my life I want to try and do "a little more" and b.) I can look back on my life and SEE the truth in this rebuke.
I borrowed a friend's Daughtry CD the other day and as I was listening to "Home" I couldn't stop thinking about how much the lyrics point directly to the Lord. Scriptures were rolling through my mind. I decided to combine the lyrics with the Scriptures to give to my friend (nonbeliever) when I returned her CD. We've had several talks about Jesus and I've shared the story of the Bible with her. Point being that yesterday I expended some energy in the Lord's name and that made me HUNGRY for Him. I got home thinking what else can I do? The Lord is obviously using me judging by the intense burden I have for my friend. How can I witness best? I was asking all sorts of questions...I had a much larger appetite for the Lord than I did that morning when I walked out the door.
Yes, there are times where I just sit down, open the Word, and say "Lord, I don't even have the energy to pray, please fill me anyway with Your grace." In his gracefulness he has rewarded that honesty when it is legitimate. But there are times where I can just feel him saying "Child, just invest a little, stretch yourself, and I will fill all that new space your have created."
"He has filled the hungry with good things, but he has sent the rich away empty." Luke 1:53
