About

Taking notes from from Weezer to Dinosaur Jr. to The Hold Steady and All-American Rejects, Sunspot's rock dares you not to sing along, play air guitar, and have a great time.

Neanderthal, their fourth album and newest release, is an exciting touchstone for the band. Whether it’s singing along to the comic bitterness of "Eat Out My Heart" or pumping your fist along to the dark hooky beat of "Neanderthal", Sunspot has created a collection of songs that’s non-stop, adrenaline-fueled fun to listen to.

Their concerts are as enjoyable to watch as they are to hear. While fearlessly engaging the audience through obscure pop culture references (crowd favorite "Scott Bakula" is a testament to that, even being used by the man himself, as the theme for his 50th birthday party), clever and often bitingly funny interplay between the band members, and an action packed performance- Sunspot never forgets that the audience is just as part of the show as they are. It's all the fun of flashy rock but with all the satisfaction of substance over style.

Sunspot has already opened for Death Cab for Cutie, Hot Hot Heat, Sponge, SevenMaryThree, Pilot to Gunner, and House of Large Sizes. Even punk legend Milo Aukerman joined Sunspot on stage for a show-stopping rendition of Descendents' classic, "Hope." In addition to their relentless tour schedule throughout the Midwest, the band has also branched out with multiple national tours performing raucous concerts in eight out of ten of North America's major markets, including Canada.

In 2004, their sophomore album, “Loser of the Year” was named Album of the Year by the Madison Area Music Industry. In April of the following year, members of the Wisconsin Area Music Industry awarded Sunspot its highly coveted Group of the Year designation.

Sunspot's hit South by Southwest in 2006 and 2007, Midpoint Music Festival, Millennium Music Conference, and they just finished their first West Coast tour. Sunspot will be continually performing in support of their new album, “Neanderthal”.

Vocalist/bassist Mike Huberty, lead guitarist Ben Jaeger, and drummer Wendy Lynn Staats met at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and they share a musical vision to blend the most passionate and fun ingredients of punk, alternative, and hard rock into a musical experience that can't be forgotten.

X Pat, Mar 30, 2007:

The only problem with Sunspot... they never seem to come to where you live. I mean you can't go wrong with this band, there isn't much more to say.

Rock on!
