There's a right old argy bargy about breastfeeding in public on the radio this morning. I really don't get all the objections. If there's a mother and baby room and it's conveniently near then it might be best to use it but if not and it's a necessity then I see no great problem. In a society that sexualises women's bodies I find it peculiar that so many people, women included, object to coming across breasts in the original mammary gland role once in a while. I've heard mother after mother calling into the radio phone in and telling how other men and women have come up to them whilst breastfeeding in public to tell them they should be ashamed of themselves. There are times when I really don't fully understand our culture. I'm probably more of a prude over highly sexualised clothing than seeing another woman breastfeeding.
The whole reason that this issue has come up is because the British government is thinking about making it part of new new law that would ensure mothers have a right to breastfeed in public, a right that is already law in Scotland.
