Our Purpose
WE ARE ARTISTS AND ACTIVISTS, USING OUR ABILITIES AS A FORM OF NON-VIOLENT PROTEST TO SOCIAL APATHY. OUR GOAL: TO INSPIRE AND INVOLVE OTHERS IN SOCIAL ACTION.
Overview
Mathitis exists first to support humanitarian non-profit organizations, doing so by monetary support garnered from donations and by creating awareness of the organizations via the Mathitis website, events, and marketing campaigns. Our business is understanding this generation and what motivates them to give both in creative expression and monetary donations. Our service is a connection from non-profit organizations focused on the cause to the people with the talent and abilities for involvement and the means to make a difference.
Social Climate
The United States has an arguably solid reputation when it comes to charitable giving and Philanthropy. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, in 2003, the world's major countries gave $108.5 billion in combined foreign aid. Of this, the U.S. contributed $37.8 billion, or 35 percent, of the total. That's not including the roughly $35 billion donated from the private sector. With that boastful pat on the back comes this harsh reality; though we carry many of the world's issues on our dime, we are still averaging less then $25 in average donations per person. This solemn fact begs the question: Being by far the richest country in the world, are we truly doing all we can to help solve the top issues facing the world today?
Summary
In our world there exists tremendous need. The global neighborhood created by the Internet and new media technology has allowed us to reach out and respond to the needs of those miles and cultures apart from ourselves. Non-profit corporations are slowly but surely reacting to the crises around us, yet they are not always equipped to handle the needs of the people wanting to be involved. Non-profit corporations rightly focus on the needs by sending aid to the hungry and poor, medication to the sick, or education to those eager to learn. An entity is needed to inspire the minds of the givers and develop them into dedicated humanitarians. While missions exist to feed the hungry, Mathitis exists to inspire people to give their time, money and talents.
