Dan!

Melbourne

A garbage truck stole my internet!!

So i guess you're wondering about the title ey? Pretty self explanitory, but hey gotta spell things out for people these days.
Yesterday I was sitting in my room getting ready for uni checking my train time table and as per usual on wednesday mornings the
recycling truck comes past. Nothing out of the ordinary. That was until i heard a loud straining noise coming from out front of the house
followed by a thwack and the front of the house shaking, just the wind i thoght, as the windows often shake at the slightest breeze. So i disregarded it
until i heard the truck stop, that was, that and well my timetable stopped loading, which seemed a strange coincidence. Anywho suspicions aside i went out to investigate,
turns out the truck had driven off with its arm up, thus severing the internet cable from the telegraph pole. Awsome!. So i spent the next few hours
on the phone to telstra - and if anyone has had the privelage to have a chatette with anyone at telstra, you'll know that the word transfer comes up more
than ANY other word. So after being transfered about 10 or 11 times, i was finally told i couldnt get someone to get over here cause the account isnt in my name
peachy =D -- Anywho that night we finally sorted it took another epic phone call, but hey, the repair guy was here on time so i guess thats good - props
to him =D.

New toys

Been busy over the past month or so I've been getting my new computer together, and I'm happy to finally say its done, after weeks of deliberating "What the heck do i want to put together? do i need to upgrade?" then finally deciding (after seeing a similar setup in action) yeah, time for an upgrade.
In a day of getting driven around by my best mate Alex, (running off his recommendations) we managed to get everything together and (that night built the rig
that last time took 6 hours) in 45 minutes. There was a bit of trial and error in setting up the hardware etc. but other than that
it purrs like a kitten....a fully grown adult tiger kitten - when it gets going you can seriously hear it going.

Specs for the rig are:

Asus Striker Extreme 680i motherboard
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
2.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
320GB 3GB/s SATA Seagate HD
Zalman 600Watt power suppl
Antec 900 gaming case (With the cool neon lights)
Big Typhoon Fan
Running Vista Home Premium 64-bit with only a few hitches, mostly due to my handy work ie. Putting RAM in the wrong slot heh

The night Vista went on I was so nervous, for one the last computer i installed it on, it killed - seriously the hard drive was corrupt.
Anywho things only went downhill from there, as i was logging in i
pressed enter to set a password - Blue screen of death. This got me
panicking, though i had a copy of XP handy i didn't want to go back a
step. Long story short after about two weeks of random crashing,
most of which when i was doing work, i did my research and discovered
it could possibly be a memory issue so i simply re-arranged the slots
the RAM was sitting in and hey presto, I was no longer killing my OS.
The extreme motherboard is really sweet, it has a tonne of really awesome features... it also has a few issues mainly to do with memory
which i later found out.

Minor issues aside the system is awesome, cant wait for nVidia to get drivers for SLI on Vista going so i can get a 2nd GTX, but having said that, that wont be for a while anyway.

PICKLES!

Blarg Just got home from work, and all i have to say is, people, if you don't like pickles take them out yourself, its not hard! Seriously I had about 5 orders that changed from w/ pickle to no pickle about 10 times each time having to remake the entire burger i think I'll just leave them in from now on heh, i work at maccas by the way - not the most stimulating of jobs but it'll do for the moment. On another note, I have no idea what I'm gunna do for my DVA (Digital Video and Audio) assignment thats due in... OH... a week! 1-3 minute video and blarg i cant think of what to do hehe leaning towards a game review or a video clip for my brother's band hehe this is going to be an "interesting" week.

WHIZ BANG POP!

Just some quick news, I'm trying my best to make this site as perty as possible, but I'm being thwarted by my damn 64k internet, 3 more days and I'm free to work on this thing. After several attempts at trying to design my own site for the purpose of blogging and image hosting I gave up and resorted to Virb (Which you can probably see hehe) and to be honest save myself a lot of trouble. I will try to update this as often as possible, but being flat out with Uni assignments (Its that time of year again *sadface* ) Okay so it seems I'm rambling, I'll stop now and inform you of more interesting matters when i next get a chance.
5 days till The Orange Box release

About

I am a student in Melbourne, Australia. I attend Swinburne University of Technology. I became interested in digital media in 2004 and have been learning and experimenting ever since. Starting with Rhinoceros NURBS modelling I then picked up 3D studio max later that year and have been using that ever since.I pretty much use Photoshop on a daily basis and am learning new tricks all the time. I hope to have completed Uni by 2010 with a bachelor of multimedia (games and interactivity).
