Been busy over the past month or so I've been getting my new computer together, and I'm happy to finally say its done, after weeks of deliberating "What the heck do i want to put together? do i need to upgrade?" then finally deciding (after seeing a similar setup in action) yeah, time for an upgrade.
In a day of getting driven around by my best mate Alex, (running off his recommendations) we managed to get everything together and (that night built the rig
that last time took 6 hours) in 45 minutes. There was a bit of trial and error in setting up the hardware etc. but other than that
it purrs like a kitten....a fully grown adult tiger kitten - when it gets going you can seriously hear it going.
Specs for the rig are:
Asus Striker Extreme 680i motherboard
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
2.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
320GB 3GB/s SATA Seagate HD
Zalman 600Watt power suppl
Antec 900 gaming case (With the cool neon lights)
Big Typhoon Fan
Running Vista Home Premium 64-bit with only a few hitches, mostly due to my handy work ie. Putting RAM in the wrong slot heh
The night Vista went on I was so nervous, for one the last computer i installed it on, it killed - seriously the hard drive was corrupt.
Anywho things only went downhill from there, as i was logging in i
pressed enter to set a password - Blue screen of death. This got me
panicking, though i had a copy of XP handy i didn't want to go back a
step. Long story short after about two weeks of random crashing,
most of which when i was doing work, i did my research and discovered
it could possibly be a memory issue so i simply re-arranged the slots
the RAM was sitting in and hey presto, I was no longer killing my OS.
The extreme motherboard is really sweet, it has a tonne of really awesome features... it also has a few issues mainly to do with memory
which i later found out.
Minor issues aside the system is awesome, cant wait for nVidia to get drivers for SLI on Vista going so i can get a 2nd GTX, but having said that, that wont be for a while anyway.
"He's a wrecking machine!!"
Now we wait for Crysis and hope for the best :)
