American Thrift Media LLC, a Baton Rouge-based boutique media company, announces the digital release of the new EP from Polly Math: Kid vs Camera. The five-track collection was released April 15, 2008 and is available now on iTunes. com. The EP signals a new collaboration featuring Harlan guitarist Britt King and A Becoming Walk singer-songwriter Barrett Black, with guest appearances by Harlan frontman John Norris, Eames Era vocalist Ashlin Phillips, pianist Daniel Patz and lyricist Jeff Roedel. The album was written and recorded in Baton Rouge, La. and mastered in Chicago, Il.
For all of its economy Kid vs Camera remains a diverse collection of sounds. There is the Gospel-tinged pop of "Roman Room Trick," sounding like a warm-hearted update on Billy Preston's records for the Beatle's Apple label and the homegrown work of The Band. The electric, pulsing post-punk of "Cherry Tree" comes off like a politically charged salvo against anyone and everyone who would use political office for personal gain. The EP ends with "Sunshine Someday" King's bittersweet, Woody Guthrie-style folk duet with Phillips, who makes this her first post-Eames Era performance.
