Started in 2006, independent artist abyssal plains is a musical project producing down/mid-tempo electronica.
Typically tagged as ambient/IDM, or chillout; abyssal plains draws influences from many genres from techno to soundtracks and classical music. The tracks range from atmospheric, dreamy chillout tracks combined with subtle melodies to more beat-driven pieces.
Abyssal plains is the latest musical project of Maurizio Giambrone, an electronic music producer based in London.
Originally influenced by bands such as Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk, Maurizio started off by playing in a series of electronic bands/duos, who played a mixture of covers and original material and gigged in various venues on the south coast of England.
As music progressed during the nineties, Maurizio decided to concentrate more on sample-based dance music. However, work and other commitments overtook and the music creation petered out.
After a long time out, enthused by the possibilities provided by the internet and software-based music creation tools, Maurizio started tinkering again and posted a couple of tracks on myspace under the alias ‘Abyssal Plains’. After hearing the Balearic-chill style track `Daybreak in Roatan`, kahvi approached with the offer of releasing an ep.
To date, 1 album, Fourth quadrant of the mandala has been released independently as a digital download, available on iTunes, amazon and other online retailers. Also 3 eps, Chimera, Hemispherical Sky and Pictures in Sound, have been released on kahvi, with tracks featuring on many other compilations/podcasts.

... having spent a very happy afternoon using the links from your homepage to visit many new (to daft) music sites, I must say Chimera, although its a few years old (06) is just stunning and really stands out .
What was the Shunt evening like ? the venue looks excellent, the event programming looks chaotic !
