Against the Norm was started as a solo project in 2003. The first cd release, featuring 13 songs, was recorded via 4-track tape and entitled "My Name is Orange". These cd-r's were stuffed into jewel cases with no booklet, had a laughable paint created label, and a photocopied tracklist on orange paper. It was labled as Chimney Sweep Records FTR-PR and given away for free at local record stores in Va. Most of the songs would appear on the next release "Reign of Stupidity" a year later but this time recording was done on a digital 12 track. The album featured 13 songs with 10 in common to the "My Name is Orange" release. The cover was done in a rainbow of colors and packaged similar to a 7" record with a foldover photocopied cover in a sleeve. This would become Chimney Sweep Records 01. In the spring of 2006 I felt the need to "release" a song called "Stop the War" that I had recently written voicing my frustration with the situation in Iraq. Along with this song came two new songs and an acoustic version of "Dream in a dream" from the first ( / second?) cd. All the covers were on red paper and feature a stolen stop sign on a fabricated post. The reverse features a damn funny drunken picture of some kick ass chops. This was again packaged 7" style and was CSR 02. 2008 brought the release of the 5-4-whoa! compilation featuring 20 southwest Va. bands and the first professional release of Chimney Sweep Records. Track 13 of said comp. is "Five Year Nightmare" venting my frustrations of my then recently quit job.
