K.I.T.

As anyone who knows me knows, I'm a car guy. So it would not be surprising that I grew up watching "Knight Rider". The show was awesome, kinda like the A-team, but with a Trans Am. It had everything you could ask for in a T.V. show. Handsome leading man, who goes town to town cleaning up trouble. Every week finding a new love interest while exchanging jokes with a smartass talking car. Needless to say, I was hooked.

Every week I would watch, to see what new series of adventures they would get into. It was like crack to my developing 4 year old mind. Adding to my addiction to the show was my parents 85 Firebird SE. I even dubbed the car "Michael", which in hindsight makes no sense because the car's name on the show was "K.I.T." not "Michael". "Michael" was Hoff's character's name. Whatever I was 4, how many 4 year olds even know what a Trans-Am is, let alone the fact that a Firebird is the same car as a Trans-Am?

By today's standards a 85 Firebird is slow and ugly, but in 85 it was a poorman's sports car. I clearly remember riding in my carseat with the T-tops removed and the wind blowing through my hair. I would often become very angry when my parents wanted to go somewhere in the "other" car. Even in such a young age I knew that women dig cars with removable roofs. Am I right ladies?

So, it was with great interest that I tuned in last night to watch the "re-hatched" "Knight Rider". At first I was really disappointed that the new "K.I.T." was a Mustang. But after the first five minutes I realized that it was a great decision. "K.I.T." is supposed to be the cutting edge of technology and the new KR Shelby looks very futuristic. The 2 hour plot episode was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it, it was full of action, dramatic, and campy at the same time. The Hoff even showed up for a cameo, which was freaking awesome. My only complaint was that the show had a couple of sleezy parts.

Listen I'm a 24 year old man, I'm all for sleezy, but just not in "Knight Rider" or primetime T.V. on the major networks for that matter. A bikini/underwear shot, or a shot of a couple undressing/making out is fine, but to have all that, plus: 1.) A very wet close up slow mo "shower" scene 2.) To make a female character lisbian, just so she can have a "nude" blonde lover in her bed when she gets out of the very wet close up slow mo shower scene 3.) to introduce the hero of the show in bed with a "nude"women 4.) Then only to have a another woman show up in some skimpy underwear to climb in bed with the hero and his "nude" lover all within the same 15 minute period is too much. I felt like I was watching "Skinamax". I just hope that was just in the pilot movie to lure in teenage viewers.

All in all, it was a cool show, updated for modern times. Even K.I.T.s voice is well done, which I was more worried about than K.I.T. being a mustang. I think I finally found a show to add to my list of favs, which as of now consists of "Battle Star", "Lost", and "Any house flipping/remodeling show I can find". I've got my popcorn ready.
