Now I'm not one to kick a man when he's down, nor even to hit him when he's wobbly. But watching John McCain's poll numbers stay strangely resilient despite the virtual disintegration of his campaign, I feel compelled to share a cautionary tale of my own firsthand experience with the Straight-Talk Express. That hell-bent freight train rolled over me a couple years ago and I haven't felt the same since. Back then, I was something of a McCain admirer. Today, I have a different story to tell

@robertmurray That's too bad, hope you can make it to the next one. Was good seeing you at Monty's on Saturday. #

@JamiMiami I understand and that was my view until now. From my viewpoint, the stakes are too high and to remain silent is to be complicit. #

@wolfsbayne You too? Try income tax burden redistribution through a return to progressive tax rates espoused by Ted Roosevelt, a Republican #

@wolfsbayne lol. so teddy was wrong on the progressive income tax? you must either be doing very well or waiting for your ship to come in. #

@wolfsbayne Well, I believe that those with less money are more inclined to spend each additional dollar because they simply have no choice. #

@wolfsbayne And those with larger amounts of disposable income are likelier to keep additional $ in their pockets: tax cuts have less effect #

@wolfsbayne But there are so many more "everyman" than "rich-man" the cumulative effect is much greater than hand-outs to the privileged few #

@wolfsbayne ie., if you increase the minimum wage, everyone benefits, including the rich, b/c that money will be spent on goods and services #

@wolfsbayne Make no mistake: the middle class happens to be a dream destination for millions of Americans who would be happy to attain that. #

@wolfsbayne By that measure, if you lower or eliminate the inheritance tax, those people will become complacent as well, right? #

@wolfsbayne Some people really don't have the self-suffiency to break through when they're challenged. They really do need society's help. #

@Teriss I agree. We're all better off when we help each other. By the way, that's what happens online: we're helping each other out here. #

@wolfsbayne Agreed it's a small amount. But such policies are part of the overall paradigm (hegemony, even) that brought us to near-collapse #

@wolfsbayne Yes, some do become complacent. But that is a small amount as well. I believe most people do want to progress given a chance. #

Quick hat-tip to @aronado and @luckystartups who had me on their show the other day. They rock! http://tinyurl.com/5hrcwg #

@wolfsbayne Many of wealthy earn their wealth from middle-class + poor who buy their goods + services + work for them. Do u agree with that? #

@cjeureka Thank you for the kind words <hugs>. Keep up the beat #

You, the online brand

We had another great meetup at RefreshMiami last night at Yahoo! Hispanic Americas. Adam Singer presented a "Coffee 2.03 social media case study, Michael Montgomery spoke about microformats, I presented "You, the online brand", attached below, and Davide Di Cillo presented his new Twitter social football service, Twootball:

Just why did Davide create Twootball? He says:

I was in an unfortunate bind: I am Italian and I love soccer. Of course, I wanted to create a Twitter application about soccer.

But then I realized that no one in Italy uses Twitter, and no one here watches soccer!

So I had to make a Twitter application about American football ...

LOL!

The presentations were great and it was fun to catch up with everyone afterwards at Novecento's.

Twitter updates for 2008-10-28

It's great to know people are getting work from our local meetups, I just heard of another case today. A solid testimonial to our community. #

Of course the corollary to this (http://twitter.com/alexdc/status/978192107) is, the community is there to feed, and not just to feed off of #

@DearYvette Thanks... this was from Mobile Monday Miami. We're finalizing deets for next 2 meetups, hopefully hosted by a major manufacturer #

How to feed your community? Talk about it. Bring a friend to meetups. Volunteer to help. Write a blog post. Publish pictures. Do a preso. #

@onajide I hear you. #

Checking out @lsal77's new service, flipshake.com #

Whichever social media consultant or blog is advising people to use automated DM responses to new followers on Twitter: please stop. Thanks. #

@swhitley I've been wondering as well, but such advice is probably on some blog posts somewhere with "tips" on using Twitter. It's too bad. #

@steaprok Agreed: automated, templated direct messages commoditize and dehumanize us. #

@A_F That's even sadder, isn't it? They're old-skool marketing experts, imho. They see everything as a channel. #

@reybango Not sure about running a social media workshop soon, I'm now trying to set up Social Media Club South Florida. #

Next web and tech meetups in Miami / South Florida: RefreshMiami tomorrow night, Social Media Club Nov. 10th, Mobile Monday Dec 8th. #

@powersellingmom I'd love to! I've never been to Ocala but I've heard it's nice #

At the screening of One Water for the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival #
