Alexis Anne http://virb.com/alexisanne alexisanne.com {soon} My general intent, throughout all my work, is to portray the world as a flawed thing of beauty - a place that shines brightly, but has a dark side to match. Everything you see here is composed by hand - cut from books I've been collecting for years, and painstakingly pieced together as seamlessly as possible. Technically they are collages, but I've never enjoyed describing them in those terms... I feel like there is a general concept out there of what collage is and tends to look like, which doesn't apply to what I do at all. My pieces create themselves through a process beginning with a loose concept, followed by a series of trials and errors, subtle maneuvers, selection/elimination, harmonious unions, and happy accidents. There is a lot of decision-making behind each element involved; it's a very meditative process for me. most of my new work is too large to scan and i am still figuring out how to document those... this was was small enough to scan in three parts. for my upcoming shows: a solo show at cafe royale, and the fecal face 7.5 year anniversary group show at 111 minna. excitingness.

normally the contents of this picture are scattered everywhere, particularly that stack of cutouts and the books. i've been meaning to build a cinderblock/planks bookshelf long & low along this wall, but haven't. the white paint/wood cutout piece is by nathan cordero.
