kitcat

kitkat started off by wandering up to us nonchalantly and saying hi
shyly, careful not to get backed into a corner. either cautious or
smart. a few weeks of this and it was time to make room for some
physical contact, but not too much. very skittish, always a twitching
tail. then suddenly one day several months later it was time to try to
get into the house when we opened the front door, and it didn't take
long to succeed. we fed it biscuits and tried to decide if it was a
boy or a girl. at the moment i'm thinking girl. the other night she
came in while i was there on my own playing videogames, and she
checked out the living room, investigated a few things and made sure i
was keeping the house in order, then went to wait for her food. after
that she hid under the bed and it took two hours to get her out. i
think i scared her, but not on purpose, so i gave her some space and
some more food. these it would seem are the secrets to maintaining a
happy relationship with a cat. when she did go outside, she seemed to
waltz away fairly happily between the cars and the aching clouds and
matching gates. but she's not been back since, so i couldn't really
speak for the effect the kicking out had on her.
