About

The voices of Elizabeth Joy Zarek and Jonathan Brinkley melt together in such a way that at times it is difficult to detect where one ends and the other begins. This Acoustic, Folk-Pop Duo needs little more than guitar and simple percussion when playing live, but have produced "Sounds of You", their debut studio album, with multiple instrumentation and will perform the CD Release with various guest musicians on April 2nd, 2008 at Mississippi Studios.

Jonathan and Elizabeth first sang together, with the serendipitous blessing of Portland, Oregon, in the spring of 2004. Jonathan, the street performer, had just moved from Ft. Worth, Texas, rootless and seeking a new life. Elizabeth was then playing congas for a local folk rock band. Their chance meeting at Portland's yearly, open-air Saturday Market was made possible by the antics of an eccentric young man who insisted on joining Jonathan beside his open, mostly empty, guitar case. When he noticed Elizabeth striding confidently along the opposite sidewalk, the stranger shouted, "Hey! You're walking on the wrong side of the street!" To Jonathan's complete surprise, the response they got was, "You guys need a drummer?" As it happened, she had just left the music store, where she'd purchased a pair of bongos. Elizabeth pulled the new drums from a duffel bag and they played Jonathan's cover of "For What It's Worth" by Stephen Stills. Jonathan was impressed by Elizabeth's drumming, but he was delighted and amazed as she began singing harmony on the chorus. The seamless blend of their two voices established itself right there on the sidewalk, and never left. Elizabeth did, though, after a couple of songs. They didn't exchange numbers. They didn't quite know what had happened. But they felt it. Hours later, when Jonathan was boarding the light rail train back to the suburbs, Elizabeth was there.

It was the first of many seemingly random reconnections the two would share. Their intimate journey since then has seen many different incarnations, always bringing them closer as it's made them stronger, both personally and musically. A commitment to honesty and openness drives their relationship, informs every aspect of their songwriting, and inspires them to bring others into the mix. Portland teaches one to believe in something more than "coincidence" and to plan for the extraordinary. By keeping their eyes open, they allowed themselves to happen upon beauty. They also noticed that it was inside them, and all around them. Jonathan and Elizabeth officially created the group name all day lovers in the spring of 2007 as they embarked on production of their first studio record, "Sounds of You".
