About

Nick Zavriev, better known by the name Ambidextrous, can be easily considered a veteran of Russian electronic music, having had almost half a dozen releases (including solo and group work) and participated in numerous club and festival gigs. At the start of his career in late 90s Nick was making IDM, appearing on various labels such as Merck (USA), Toytronic (UK), Neo Ouija (UK), Klangkrieg (Germany). His 12 record on Shaped Harmonics got positive reviews from European magazines like De-Bug, Musik and Absorb among others. His third album Post-Pop Workshop became one of the best-selling Russian electronic CDs ever. In the same year Ambidextrous released a collaboration album with an Israeli-American duo Grundik+Slava.

Lately Nick has been into experimenting with dance music. Possessing encyclopedic electronic music knowledge, he is able to combine the style and sound of several epochs. His current style includes elements of electro, house, new school breaks and even italo-disco and new wave from the 80s. Nicks passion for dance sounds led to releasing two dance albums, Mess Media (2004) and Freakocktail (2005).

Beside producing his own tracks, Ambidextrous makes remixes for artists such as Multiplex, Propergol Y Colargol, Virtual Mode, Blink Blink, Russian indie-rock band Deti Picasso etc. His recent work includes two remixes made for a Swedish synth-pop band Hype.

Ambidextrous (from Latin- ambi- two, both; «dextrous»- right) means a person who can use his both hands. In accordance to his name, Nick manages to do several activities at once- give lectures to students, promote independent music with friends and colleagues from the promo group avant and have two more music projects at his side: Nick plays indietronica together with a bass player Sergey Morkva Moskovkin and participates in a ethno/trip hop band Jermook, whose album has recently came out on Shum label.

Beside his studio work, Nick frequently plays his music live and as a DJ in many Moscow clubs (such as 16 tons, Phlegmatic Dog, 35 mm, Okno and many more) and festivals, sharing the stage with artists like Lali Puna, Hood, Jamie Lidell, NLF3, Why? and many more.
