First of all, I want to remind all of those who don't read Blythe's blog about the up and coming For Uganda event this saturday at 4 pm at the Hensley household. (Call me for directions?) The cost is $5, which will cover your food and go a little bit further in aiding our project. Hope to see you there!
Secondly, today stinks, as it is clear I am experiencing a relapse of UC. I stayed home from school, waited all day for my doctor to call me back and prescribe more steroids, then spent my evening at Kaiser in Woodland Hills. I don't know what the cause of my relapse is- it is about that time that the effects of steroids wear off (stopped taking them a 2 months ago), which I pray isn't the case, because that would mean my new medicine is ineffective and I will have to go to something stronger and comparable to chemotherapy. Or it could be because I caught a tiny cold, and since my medicine is an immune-suppressing drug, I decided not to take it for 4 days to fight off my cold, and that 4 days caused a relapse. I hope this is the case. Then I should be back to normal after a dose of topical steroids... Well I was doing more research and found some new studies that conflict with the leading belief that diet has no effect on UC. As it turns out, a diet high in red meat and sulfur is no good for UC sufferers. Well, I certainly don't eat red meat, at least not often, but the sulfur may have something to do with it. It turns out that most of my favorite foods are rich in sulfur: chocolate, almonds, eggs, broccoli, avocado, spinach, tomatoes, milk, coffee... This is good news, but, I don't know where I'm supposed to get my iron or protein if I can't eat meat OR spinach. Or my vitamin C... that was from tomatoes alone.
