Well howdy sports fans it has been some time indeed. I haven't really done this in a while as I have been busy with my Internship at Partners Film Company, learning about the wonderful world of commercials.

A long time ago I was asked to compare and contrast filmmaking in Toronto in comparison to Ottawa. While I have to say they are both different. There are advantages to shooting in both places... More so in Toronto

Toronto has a stronger advantage in terms of pursuing paid work (you really wanted to get paid to make movies, what's wrong with you!) there are many internships an opportunities that are available to you, the only thing is that you have to be able to work for free for some time before this happens.

The one thing I will say is that there are many more scenarios in the city where you can't steal your shots. Because a lot of majors work here, there is little leeway to steal shots or get locations for free (unless you know someone ), so getting permits (which are free most of the time) to shoot on the streets is a must. Locations also are going to cost you because there is a precedent set for people paying for locations.

This is an advantage I give to Ottawa, the run and gun ability is much greater, and proves to be more successful, I mean I was able to get a Train Station for free! Advantage Ottawa.

Simply, there is more going on in Toronto at any given time, you can jump on to independent work for free or try and find a list of production managers and get their digits or e-mails that will get you PA work at the very least. Crew is also an asset there are tons of people to work with here, you just have to do a little leg work to find them.

Ok so what do I have going on you ask? Well I have been such a big procrastinator that I haven't finished either The End ( which will be 2 years in August) or Recollection, which just needs some nice nice colour correction. So that is job one. I will be going to Ottawa on the 20th or 21st and making it my mission to finish The End come hell or high water! When I come back it's Recollections turn.

When this is done I will be getting my demo reel finished. By late August or early September I would like to have it done so that I can send it out to the various production companies available to me!

At the same time I'm writing a feature, so I will be doing a lot it seems, but this is not an immediate thing.

Also I'm making myself a portfolio for story boarding, trying to see if that will get me some part time work. If PA gigs also come up I will be doing those also.

I'm in a bit of a transition period for myself right now, I'm just going to stay focused on my own stuff, but keep one foot in with the big dogs.
