About

Guitarist and songwriter with about eight years or so playing experience, something I picked up in college. Usual style I go for is some kind of metal/punk/post-hardcore sound, with some attempted Kurt Cobain-ish (something like that) type of melodies mixed in as well. I've also done (and still try to do sometimes) some more acoustic, kind of singer-songwriter and/or more traditional rock stuff. I'm not extremely proficient at a lot of fancier chord progressions, etc. I'm more punk in that area. I do have a tendency to like to play around with time signatures some. As you can hear, I also attempt to sing and do drum programming when necessary. Some various bands I've been listening to recently and/or influences: Mastodon, Metallica, Pantera, Ministry, White Zombie, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Nirvana, Soundgarden, REM, Superchunk, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Afghan Whigs, Polvo, Therapy?, Yea Yea Yeas, Fugazi, Refused, Quicksand, At the Drive-In, Converge, Low, Tom Petty, Replacements/Paul Westerberg, Wilco, LCD Soundsystem, Burial, Liars, Lightning Bolt, A Place to Bury Strangers, NIN, RATM, Joy Division, "Sub-Pop 200" ('88 compilation album of then-current Sub-Pop artists), Okkervil River, Symphonic Chronicles (aka Billy Christiansen)

Now for a basic breakdown of the albums you see in the discography:

Reasons: originally started out as my attempt at making an album for February 2009's RPM album in a month challenge. Ran out of time, although I decided I'd go ahead and put the songs I finished up and probably finish a few more. So far, it is and will probably generally be basic rock stuff.

Boneyard: written and recorded summer-fall 2008. Me mostly doing my usual metal/punk/post-hardcore type of stuff. Also messing around some with Hydrogen, (a drum machine, emulator, computer program, whatever). The main photo on the cover is one of mine, the inset something I found online.

II: written and recorded in February 2008 for the '08 RPM challenge. Mostly more traditional and singer/songwriter kind of stuff. A lot of acoustic guitar. Was originally ten songs, cut out three because I wasn't all that happy with them. Another two of the originals were taken out because they were not really completely done when I sent it in, and are still unfinished. Those two songs are now in "Random Junk." The photo on the cover is completely mine. Has always been one of my favorites...

Damage/Damage-Control: The original...written and recorded in February 2007 for the '07 RPM challenge. Just me, my voice, and an electric guitar. Once again, tried to go a more traditional guitar route, for the most part anyway, since I found out about the challenge at the last minute and didn't have time to really try to line up a bassist or drummer. Can hardly hear my voice, and is not for people who really can't stand anything very hastily-done and not well-produced at all. Most of the album was actually done in the week before the album was submitted. There's still some stuff I like in it though. All ten songs originally written, recorded and sent in are here.

Random Junk: Right now this consists of two songs that were originally on "II" but were not truely finished. Still need bass and drums to make them really done. This is probably also where I'll store any other one-off random songs I come up with and record.
