Unfortunately, the sunrise was around 6am and there was no way I was getting out of bed to get my camera. However, this I snapped through my window (notice the vertical blinds' reflection to the left) around 8:30pm on a brief run to the bathroom (I've been doing homework all weekend). When I got back out of the bathroom not even a minute later, it was gone...

So, how is it that two Fridays in a row now, during Spring Break, no less, I pulled myself out of bed before 9:00 to watch TV?

Barack Obama.

Last Friday I watched him give a speech at Portland's Memorial Colliseum and this Friday he was on The View (a show that I would not have watched in a million years had this momentus occasion never taken place).

I own two TiVos and yet I felt I had to watch both shows as they aired…

Americans are stupid...

Most don't have a clue as to the vast impact our lifestyle and culture has on the rest of the world. We live in our shallow self-absorbed daily routines without a second guess as to the "Americanization" we force on the global economy.

I just recently watched "Big Mac: Inside the McDonald's Empire" on CNBC. Much of the content of the documentary was not news to me. I personally avoid fast food like the plague.

The troubling part of the show was in the last 20 minutes or so when they covered the expansion of the McDonald's empire into China. Those poor unfortunate souls. They don't even know what's hitting them.

Some highlights:
> 31,000+ stores in 118 countries
> $21 Billion in annual revenue
> Ronald McDonald is one of the most recognizable characters on the planet,
second only to Santa
> Big Mac, large fry & a large coke: 1430 calories and 59 grams of fat
> There are currently about 800 McDonalds in China
> 20 years ago there were none
> Before 2005, China didn't even know what a "drive-thru" was
> McDonalds has made a deal with a Chinese state-controlled oil company,
allowing them to build a McDonalds at any existing or new gas station facility
> McDonalds CEOs merely see China and their 1.4 billion population
as endless opportunity
> A Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese boasts:
740 calories and almost 1400mg of sodium

Check it out for yourself on CNBC.
