It seems like time has flown for EVERYTIME I DIE as they have not only garnered a strong following but have reached album number five. New Junk Aesthetic is an album in perpetual action and hits as hard as the band can deliver. The album is filled to the brim with a variety of unending tempo shifts and a barrage of heavy guitars/bass. The band has done a solid job of melding in rock into their metalcore foundation. The only times when EVERYTIME I DIE come close “mellowing out” is with the opening track, “Roman Holiday,” and “Wanderlust.” The former is the slowest song on New Junk Aesthetic and is the sound of the band stretching out and building up the momentum. The latter is a Southern rock number done EVERYTIME I DIE-style, complete with clean vocals. In a way, New Junk Aesthetic seems like a jagged jigsaw puzzle, the pieces may not necessarily seem to be perfects fits for each other but at the end of the day, it’s one big chunk of an album. This characteristic serves to enhance the schizo/paranoid themes of the album. The DVD, Party Pooper, that is packaged with the album is a hilarious and entertaining look into the antics of the band. New Junk Aesthetic is a fine EVERYTIME I DIE album and a testament that they are doing just as good, if not better, than their peers in the metalcore scene. (Epitaph Records)
