This album was a real labour of love for me. I had never organised any kind of compilation before and had no real clue as to how to go about it. As a big Weezer fan I felt this could potentially be incredible and had an uneasy feeling that someone was going to beat me to the punch. After many months of plotting and sheming I managed to assemble an enviable roster of my favourite 8-bit artists that exceeded my wildest expectations. Dave Mauro provided the incredible artwork and I will be forever grateful. His lo-fi riffing on the cover of The Blue Album really encapsulates what this project was all about and blew my puny early concepts out of the water. I had hoped the compilation would cover every Weezer album and not be too heavy on the Blue but there is no getting away from the fact that their debut record is the most fondly remembered. I was pleased that 'Songs From The Black Hole' and 'Make Believe' were represented but during the final weeks I began work on a cover of 'Slave' from 'Maladroit' to replace my eventual submission. It was sounding good but I ran out of time to complete it and so stuck with 'I Do'. 'I Do' is the uk bonus track from The Green Album and a song that I have always liked a lot. I think it would have made a great opener for that album before 'Don't Let Go' kicks in and have ordered it that way on my ipod.
