GMHC Show

The GMHC food drive was very successful the other night at XES Lounge. Thanks for all the support!! As far as the show, it went really well.People were really receptive. You know it's not always that easy winning over "the gays" with rock & roll. I guess the Ed Hardy undies did the trick.

Top 10 List

We've come to the end of '08. One of my favorite things to do every year is compile a top 10 records list. So here it is (let me know what you think I left out).. 1- The Pretenders , "Break Up the Concrete" (pretty obvious choice coming from me. There best album since "Learning to Crawl") 2- Lucinda Williams, "Little Honey" (always so consistent plus this one Rocks!) 3- The Ting Tings ,"We Started Nothing" (also the best single of the year by far "That's Not My Name") 4- TV on the Radio , "Dear Sciene" (way too cool) 5- The Raconteurs ,"Consolers of the Lonely" (it kicks ass) 6- Aimee Mann , "Fuck Smilers" (more solid stuff from Mrs. Penn) 7- Santogold (took me right back to the 80's plus totally working the M.I.A. thing) 8- The Duke Spirit, "Neptune" ( the fuckin Jefferson Airplane!!) 9- Vampire Weekend - (nice and fresh) 10- Madonna , Hard Candy (not too bad from the "old lady". Well in all fairness, there are 2 other women over 50 on my countdown) Looks like Girls Rule this year- again!!!

So I went to see Milk the other night. Is it ironic that California was dealing with Prop 6 thirty years ago and here we are dealing with Prop 8 in 2008? It's the same thing just worded differently. It aims at discriminating against gays and lesbians in one form or another. Maybe it isn't ironic? Maybe it's just meant to be. Another right of passage. It reminds us how far we've come and how it can all be taken away.

A Christmas thought.. a few days late

Dec 24th, 2008. I felt like my father. Waiting for my kid to fall asleep. Than running outside, going into the trunk of the car, getting some of the gifts out, going into the basement, pulling out more stuff from there, and then dragging everything into the living room. It took us about 4 hours to get everything together. When it was all done , Andrew and I stood in front of the Christmas tree and just watched. I wanted to cry - cry from the happiness I felt; cry from the anticipation of seeing the joy on my son's face in the morning; cry because I missed my father; but mostly because I had just realized that there really is a Santa Claus.
