On a long flat plane

So despite my gushing earlier this year, I am once again single. I do my best writing when I'm romantically isolated, so maybe this will spell good things for me, creatively. At first, things were hard. We kept in touch and I was a mess. Since boundaries have been set, though, things have improved dramatically. Emotionally, I'm an absolute gem right now. My moods have improved, my heart is light and I'm much more social with people I do not know.

More social with people I do not know seems like such an innocent sentence, but I have struggled to feel comfortable with the People I Do Not Know portion of the population for many years. This is such incredible progress, and shows such a boost to my overall self esteem (that I didn't even know I needed) that I feel like a different person altogether when I'm out walking around.

For the first time since I moved out at age 17, I have no immediate plan. I moved out of our shared apartment and back in with my folks three weeks ago and have no idea where I'll go next. Paying off my debt so I'm less financially burdened is the main goal, one I've already begun to attack with gusto. Big shout out to my entire family: I never thought I'd ever need to ask for help again, but when I did they were right there to support me. It was a great relief to have so much love pouring in.

Life's just sort of stretching out around me, with no real walls up to stop me from anything. I live far out of the city, so it takes at least an hour's drive to my old stomping grounds. I fill my afternoons after work with workouts at the gym or reading at my favorite coffee shop - after a solid year of never going in, the man behind the counter still knows my face. Now that's service.

How I spent my 4th of July holiday

Sitting back on the sofa with a book, a beverage and a total sense of relaxation... aside from briefly nursing the ill, and hosting a small get together yesterday. I'd rather sit safe in my 3rd floor living room and listen to the pool dwellers shrieking below than sit among them myself, and I'm okay with not seeing fireworks this year. I'd rather just chill.
I guess this means I'm getting old. I'm cool with that, as long as the booze is free (what was paid for Thursday is free today!) and the food is good. (Of course it is - I'm cooking.)
Happy Independence Day. May we all have infinite more years of doing whatever makes us happy, today and everyday.

Scientists visit the Creation Museum

Paleontology and Creationism meet but Don't Mesh - NYT

The museum’s presentation appeals to visitors like Steven Leinberger and his wife, Deborah, who came with a group from the Church of the Lutheran Confession in Eau Claire, Wis. “This is what should be taught even in science,” Mr. Leinberger said.

Which is like saying Shakespeare should be studied in Trigonometry; they're not quite the same. Although, I must say, they are both seriously lacking in the triceratops-wearing-a-saddle department, an area the Creation Museum's got covered:

Just like in the Bible! Just like in the Bible!

Dinner last night

1. Small white corn tortilla
2. Wedge of Laughing Cow Garlic & Herb cheese
3. Chunks of flake-style imitation crab

Put it all together and roll it up. Holy shit, this was tasty.

Cheap snacks: Pickles and salsa

1. pickles - I use Nathan’s half dills
2. salsa - I use Pace

Chop up pickles, pour salsa on top, mix and eat with spoon.
Alternatively, you could pour the salsa on top of the half dill and eat it with a fork and knife. (very classy)

Dutch Tulips grow larger

Dutch Tulips grow larger: All around our home, the flowers are blooming (including dozens of tulips along the street!). I can't wait for these to open up. They used to look like this: http://virb.com/asjdk/photos/2181099

Keeping it bright on Wednesday

Life's much more fun these days - no more struggling alone. I've got a cat now, and a boyfriend who trusts me enough to go halfsies on rent. Despite our unfortunately crumbling economy, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. I hope to keep these optimistic thoughts as the year goes on. 'Nothing to complain about' can often get brushed aside if I (OMG!) can't find my shoes or my boss is cranky. Life is hard! Everything sucks! How about a dose of perspective once in awhile?
