Fortunate events...

post a comment | posted Jul 23

The last couple of days have been whirlwind ones. Monday was worrisome at first, because we did not know what would become of Joey's tooth and job situation and how it would have a bearing on us financially. By the end of the day, however, we had been the welcomed receivers of a series of fortunate events.

Fortunate event number one...Joey went to the dentist on Monday, resulting in an $83 office call fee and money needed for painkillers and antibiotics. Thanks to "an anonymous gift horse" and his sister-in-law Amanda, we managed to cover these expenses without too much worry.

Fortunate event number two...Even though we were glad he got to go see the dentist for help on Monday, his diagnosis of a $225 tooth extraction was a bit worrisome for our financial situation. Those of you who live check-to-check (which is virtually everyone) will understand how any sort of emergency that you didn't know about beforehand can render your bankbook a chaotic mess of worries. But, because Joey's mom had an insurance credit at the dentist and graciously offered to use it, Joey is having his surgery without causing us any additional financial worry.

Fortunate event number three...On Monday afternoon, my efforts to advertise my editing really paid off in a big way, and I was granted a contract and deposit from a Canadian author for his novel, paid a deposit on editing a travel blog for an unnamed new client, and offered a contract to work as a freelance proofer for American Book Publishing Inc. These new business opportunities landed us some money in the bank to help with groceries and other things that we were worried about, not to mention paying some people back for things and enabling me to buy some much-needed reference books for my editing business.

Fortunate event number four...My sister called me today from the Clark County Fair (boy, do I envy her, considering how much I miss Sugar Waffles and walking through the Mercantile Building to collect free stuff), to tell me that she is shipping me her computer. At the same time, our old virus-infested computer is being looked at by Shaun to determine if we can get it back in working order. So, our computer issues at home are being resolved little by little, which will be a huge help for my editing business, which will, in turn, possibly prevent future worries about dental emergencies!

So, in a nutshell, these last few days have been a blessed few. And, boy, did I need them...

Keep Joey in your prayers, as he is having his extraction surgery done tomorrow and will probably look like I punched him in the face.

...and so I ran...
