Creating music without boundaries, Auto Defiance playfully blurs the lines between Alternative, Indie Rock, and Post Punk. Energetic and heavy grooves soaked with cello, synth, and random ambience, each song unfolds into a story.
With a trademark sound of ambient-yet-edgy indie rock, this quartet of talent each have the same vision - create a wall of sound performance of intimate, well-thought-out songs. Acoustic guitar, and synth, blend with melodic vocals to entice strong pop feelings, yet enough dirty guitar to stir the mind and the tip the senses. The energy through their music take you from angsty guitar anthems to dreamy ballads.
Upon writing a handful of new songs, on a wave of inspiration, Boyer began holding weekly open mics and held court in a mini studio above Nashville hispter coffee house Cafe Coco. Many rehearsals and countless auditions later, a handfull of musicians seemed to finally complete the sound. In early 2008, things finally began to come together and the group hit the studio.
Creating music without boundaries, Auto Defiance playfully blurs the lines between Alternative, Indie Rock, and Post Punk. Holding regular studio sessions since becoming a band, they have moved into live performance, exploring new sonic and visual territory together. Small events that would mean little to the untrained ear, through Boyer's work are magnified to form a parallel to something greater in all of us. Inspired by larger than life characters such as James Dean, to pop artist Andy Warhol, to musical deity's such as Jeff Buckley, and The Smiths; Auto Defiance fully understands the power of iconography in music.
As a singer/songwriter, Boyer's unique palette morphs to accommodate the atmosphere of the song and numerous music business insiders have sung his praises. Bradley was approached at one point by an industry songwriting team, who offered him to co-write four songs for an upcoming Goo Goo Dolls project. Boyer turned it down. However, it did introduce him to greater licensing opportunities and a number of well respected contacts, which led to on-air interviews, radio airplay and unanimous positive music reviews for the independent artist and his already budding career.
Their self-released EP "Damina's Dream" carries you into a five song mini-melodrama, soaked with orchestral ambience and moody strings, each song takes on a life of its own. Adding depth and dynamics through such lush instrumentation and a hint of electronica, Auto Defiance chameleon-like creation of grandiose rock music is both endearing and inspiring. Co-producing the studio efforts with Sean Giovanni, of James Kennedy Productions, the band has truly pushed the envelope while creating a moment.
