I am Ken Wilson, Christ Follower, husband, father, friend, visual and moving image artist, lover of obscure music, hummus, green tea, and weight lifting. In that order. Even though I am on staff at NewSpring Church, the thoughts expressed here are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of NewSpring or its staff.

I will maintain a Virb presence as long as it is fashionable, but you may wish to visit the more fully stocked AV Club blog where all the action really happens. (psst. the really good videos are here)

RTM in many places

Lest you just joined us I am a huge fan of Remember the Milk for managing To-do lists and all of the various deliverables for which my department is responsible. (whew, just avoided a dangling participle there). Today I added a few more channels to siphon information into this system.

First is Remember The Milk for Quicksilver. Quicksilver is by far the best addition you'll ever add to your Mac setup. At its least it is an application launcher. As you delve deeper it can interaction with multiple services and information sources on a command-line level. Example. From anywhere on my computer I now do this:

Control+space = bring up Quicksilver
"." (starts text input)
"this is a thing I need to do" = type in my to-do list item
TAB (moves to the actions list)
type "R" = sets that text to go to my online to-do list, RTM
Enter = submits that to-do list item to my list

From there, I have that to-do item available in Gmail as a sidebar widget, on the RTM site, or on my iPhone in the application.

And if you really geek out (or use Firefox and Windows, thus don't have Quicksilver available) you can now install RTM for Ubiquity or one of their many other services.

I won't go into tremendous detail about it right now, but you can expect to see some of my monome based experiments here on the AV Club over the next several months as I dig into this device. First, what the heck is it?

The monome is a USB / MIDI / OSC interface. At it's most basic, it's a wooden box with a metal faceplate and an 8

I'd prefer not to have links to ALL commercials (like a clearing house site), just the 1-2 you think I shouldn't miss. Links are Ok, but google search terms are fine too.

Say what you want, I'm stoked as heck about the new Star Trek movie. Ever since I used to sit and watch the original 1960s Star Trek with my Dad I've been a fan of the series. I grew up as a geeky middle schooler on The Next Generation (and have since renounced it), but with JJ in charge of this current iteration I think it will be worth the hype.

And if not, we still have GI Joe.

iPhone (mini) mod

I performed a (mini) mod to my iPhone this week. Browsing some random design / tech site I found usbfever.com, a seller of various trinkety gadgets. One that caught my eye was the iPhone fisheye lens.

The kit includes a magnetic ring that sticks to the phone providing a place to easily mount and dismount the attachment. The shots are wonderfully low-fi and I've found it to just be fun. This is not a high-quality lens by any means, but it is functional.

A few of the lens:
