About
Batata Doce (Portuguese for "sweet potato") debuted in the spring of 2007 as a duo of Russell Owens and Leticia Arioli, who had previously played together with The King Congregation during 2005 & 2006. Their first show was at the much-missed Atlanta DIY venue I.S.P. Space, playing as a guitar and vocals two-piece. Working there were bassist and drummer Justin Sias & Todd Morrison, who eventually joined the band, followed soon by Atlanta music scene veteran Justin Hughes (ex-Rock*A*Teens), and later saxophonist Todd Barnett.
