The origins of Battery Point can be traced to Toronto, 2005. Prince Edward Island's Dennis Ellsworth, formerly lead singer with The Rude Mechanicals, recruited and organized the original Battery Point line up, and for two years this talented group of musicians made an impact on the big city music scene, releasing its debut, self-titled recording in 2007, a disc that features eleven of Ellsworth's own compositions.
In October 2007, the CD Battery Point received three P.E.I. Music Award nominations and two months later, an East Coast Music Association nomination for Best Alternative Recording of the Year.
Charlottetown brothers Craig and Brady MacDonald (formerly of the rock band Chamberlane) were roommates with Dennis in Toronto and the three soon began writing songs for a nameless new project. Meanwhile, Bruce White, Dennis's former U.P.E.I. roommate and native of Stephenville, Newfoundland, was living and recording music in Seoul, South Korea under the moniker "A Taste of Dynamite". In October 2007, all four relocated to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to form a remodelled version of Battery Point.
The style of the reconstituted band has shifted from a laid-back, alt-roots affair, to a dirty rock & roll sound shaped by the song writing of Dennis and Bruce, two gentlemen wise in their craft. The band is currently refining over 30 brand new songs, and has been gaining popularity in the Charlottetown music scene since their return.
A new recording is in development for release in the summer of 2008.
