i originally started recording back in 2001 with the intention of designing music or sound that would be an ideal painting soundtrack (for myself). The main focus was on making background textures that do not demand a great deal of attention. in 2005 i started focusing more on melodic texture, and that is when i decided use the name biathalon. with painting in mind, i often create sounds or drones in hopes that they will have some sort of synesthesia (or color synesthesia) effect on listeners, as they sometimes do for me. In other words, I hope that the sounds will aid your imagination in createing visual imagery or color, forcing the two senses to be coupled in a way. another more physical way to view this concept would be through cymatics (the study of physical patterns produced through the interaction of sound waves in a medium); not that i have tried to view the patterns of my sounds through water or sand, but i like that concept; how very different things can relate and even interact. i have always been interested in the possibilities that sight and sound have on the subconscious mind. that is why i mostly work intuitively in both my art and music... i also play in a group called metal with aaron shepherd.
