Aarons Rockin n' Life in Review:
The Love Life/Still Pink/Foxtrot Rio @ Jewish Mother 07/06/08
This is the first time that I have gone to Jewish Mother for a show. I have been there many times back in the days of waiting tables at the beach...after work to check a drink..or even before work.. But -d- and I get there before the show starts. That is a first for us. The crowd is pretty young and since this the summer families are about in the place. It is the usual beach crowd, touristy and radio friendly. Me and -d- not so much that way... We are the new Sid and Nancy compared to this crowd. -D- and grabs a Bourbon on ice and a splash and I am drinking a beer of course. We make our way through family bliss and slinky dressed twentysome's to a table.
757apparel.com is Showing their line of shirts at this show. And it is awesome graphic art works. I head outside to keep -d- company while she smokes. And there is sick graffiti on the walls all in the back of Jewish Mothers. A lot of the work I recognize, so I know they keep the scene local and real at Jewish Mothers.
More beer is on its way to -d- and I, as now we sit again among the happy summer fray. The Lovelife is first to play to the summer drenched crowd. They explain to the sun bleached ones that they don't have a drummer for their set since he had a family emergency. Despite that issue and the one with the soundman not being able to fix the feedback, The Lovelife was awesome. Their big dream pop sound filled the Jewish mother and stunned the crowd numb. Me and -d- we are caught up in their great hooks and riffs. And so we go dance out amongst crowd to their awesome lulling sounds layered with horns in the tracks.
Well we grab more beer when the band is done. -D- then goes to buy the guys from The Lovelife drinks for on of their shirts. 757apparel.com representatives take stage and throw out shirts to the happy sandy crowd. Well me and -d- do get an awesome shirt out of them and a cuzy. -D- heads to take a smoke break in the rain since you can't smoke in the bar and I am set to watch the beers and shirts. I hope they don't move my reality is broken enough already.
Still Pink comes on stage. I have been looking forward to seeing them live for a good long time. The guitarist (vocals) and bassist (vocals) start off with this quirky cool dancing as they play the first song. -D- and I dance our arses off to the overwhelming blissful goodness of Still Pink. This band, with their great beautiful sounds and their great 3 piece presence, needs to tour national and be on a label. They are on fire on stage as the crowd soaks in and -d- and I are tearing up the floor as usual. I am stoked by the very shoegaze meets and weds power pop songs of Still Pink. If you are a label you need to sign these boys and send them to cities that will dance to their music because they have that vibe. And the vibe of Still Pink is pure greatness, and they show a true love for the music they play.
-D- is off taking to some expatriates of Michigan (one of her many hometowns). The guy is a photographer and his girl an ad executive. Finely some people I can relate too at the show besides the bands. We also catch up with Jason and Chad of Arcadian Flashback that is hanging out at Jewish Mother as well. More people that are awesome, this night is making a social comeback.
Well now Foxtrot Rio is taking to the crowd with their very soulful bluesy styling. They have a very classic feel about their music. Very Doors meets Led Zeppelin. I can dig the music, it is awesome. Of course the crowd is now dancing. Foxtrot Rio has the girls swooning and the guys on the floor as well. It is a good ole rock n' roll resurge and the feeling is good. I am glad to see the crowd getting into the mood of things finally.
The bands are done, drinks are coming to a end and the crowd is now feeling the buzz. -D- is networking and has my beer so I walk that way. I was glad that -d- emailed me about this show; I thought I was the only person in this town who looks for good local shows. I am glad to find out there is a crowd for the indie local scene of the 7 cities. And glad to have found my soul mate to share these awesome experiences with, and also find more friends to include. I love this area, but sometimes I need to be reminded of why and how to do so. My friends and good music always show me the way every time. Live, love, learn and evolve.
