What keeps us..

I'm wondering today about what keeps people making music in a certain genre. I'd imagine that we all listen to different music, and are in turn influenced by our varied musical taste. This week I've been listening to a lot of acoustic folk. Yet when i sit down to make music I mostly work on Hip-hop inspired sounds. I've been thinking a lot lately about how my process has developed over the years and how I've started to cross some genre lines with my instrumental projects. I kind of imagine this will be a consistent them for me for the rest of my musical life, doing little projects with a certain musical aesthetic in mind. I wonder if other people have the same leanings with their own music..

you know trying to figure out the person you want to be in life, you have to make some hard decisions that sometimes aren't obviously in your best interest. I moved to Ny about two years ago when i felt like I had to get out of a system that i had created for myself that was starting to be nothing but self-destructive. At the time I just couldn't find my way out. The dramatic nature of a complete environment change has a way of taking you out of your comfort zone and that process was very cathartic for me. very necessary. From that i rediscovered my love of music, and my other creative pursuits, I'm hoping this continues..
