singer-songwriter birdpaula was born in tennessee and grew up in a musical environment. she inherited her mother's passion for opera, lieder, english and welsh folksongs, and the affinity for jazz and blues from her father. she left her homestate when she was four, settled in chicago, and later new hampshire. her musical studies include classical voice training, piano and guitar, as well as work with jazz pianist jeff gardner.
during the 80's she sang in parisian blues clubs, did some recording and composed for television and when music took the background for a while, she devoted most of her time to painting and exhibiting her work.
in 2005 she did a featuring for her son jackson on his album "Smash... Jackson and his Computer Band" (WARP) which led her to meeting marc collin, initiator of the Nouvelle Vague project. she interpreted "pride" on the last nouvelle vague album and worked on other projects with marc such as his forthcoming album "two for the road".
her solo album "birdpaula", eleven songs of delicate understatement has just been released in europe on the label THE PERFECT KISS/PIAS.
