Black Kids hail from Jacksonville, Florida and comprise of brother and sister Reggie and Youngblood, Dawn Watley, Owen Holmes and Kevin Snow.
After enjoying a wave of interest via their MySpace last summer, they began working with Quest Management in September 2007 and signed to Almost Gold Recordings in November.
This deal coincided with the band offering up their 'Wizard of Ahhhs' EP as a free download via a dedicated website -www.blackkidsmusic.com. This EP consisted of the bands' demo recordings of 'Hit The Heartbrakes', 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance with You', 'Hurricane Jane' and 'I've Underestimated My Charm (Again)'.
2008 has seen the band included in the BBC Sounds Poll for 2008 and tipped as Ones To Watch by the NME (amongst others). They have enjoyed continued touring including headlining a Vice Tour with Ipso Facto and Friendly Fires, support tours with Kate Nash and Sons & Daughters, and sold out shows at London's Water Rats and two ICA headline dates - all before releasing a single.
Black Kids' debut album is currently being recorded in London by Bernard Butler and is set for release in early July.
Their first single 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You' is released on April 7. It's currently playlisted on Radio 1, XFM and Virgin Radio and picking up plays on Radio 2 and 6 Music.
Performances on Later... with Jools Holland and T4 are in the bag along with an interview for Freshly Squeezed. The video has been playlisted on MTV2 Spanking New, NME TV, E4 Music and Q.
After a short tour in America during May (including Coachella), the band will embark on a full headline tour of the UK in June followed by summer festival appearances.
