However, I am saving up for a trip to Japan next summer, and I will catch the Fuji Rock festival while there.
Updates

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Coachella review is coming soon. I got so sick from the whole affair that two days later I was in the hospital hooked up to an IV against my will. Still recovering. I also had a loyal, reliable computer spontaneously quit IRL forever without reason or warning. When it rains, it pours.

Points of interest:
1. My Bloody Valentine tickets went on sale a couple weeks ago and still are on-sale. Except in Chicago, which is sold out. Last I checked the other shows were not. SO GO BUY A FUCKING TICKET! It'll be another 16 years before they tour again, if ever. Do not miss them.

2. According to Product Shop NYC David Byrne and Brian Eno will be touring this fall, and they have proof: the first date!

3. As mentioned two posts below, Asobi Seksu will be releasing their upcoming album this fall on Polyvinyl. Also, Yuki Chikudate, Asobi Seksu's lovely lead singer told me via myspace that the previous albums are, in fact, finally going to be released on vinyl, and that all future albums will be on the vinyl format at the same time. And speaking of Coachella, Yuki said "Coachella would be amazing", so please finally book them, Goldenvoice! The vinyl releases have me very excited because I can't wait to hear how warm they sound and imagine having full-size versions of Sean McCabe's killer cover art:

The Coachella set times clusterfuck

See the bad news here

Seriously, WTF? Kraftwerk vs Animal Collective vs M.I.A.? Rilo Kiley vs Islands? Metric vs Spiritualized? And the only two subheadliners on Sunday conflict with each other. I don't care much about either, but I thought that only happens at ACL and Lollapalooza.

And according to this google cache, it will be much less crowded at Coachella this year. Well, that's good. For us. Not so much Goldenvoice, so it's bad. And Roger Waters will have pyrotechnics. And there will be several surprise speakers, presumably talking about the wonder of going green, before all the kids taking the train depart to Indio, including Jeff Spicoli. Oh yeah, Sean Penn is also "playing" on Sunday. Twice.

So I guess this is my schedule so far:
Friday:
Battles 3-3:45
Dan Deacon 4:00-4:50
The Breeders 5:00-5:50
Mum 5:55-6:45
Goldfrapp 7:10-7:30
Raconteurs 7:40-8:20
Aphex Twin 8:30-8:50 (wtf? 7-9 is insane for conflicts)
The Verve 9:00-10:10 (I'm too afraid to miss any of The Verve, and hauling ass from the main to the sahara for 20 minutes and then running back to the main seems a bit pointless but I know I'll never see Aphex Twin again)
Fatboy Slim 10:45-12:00
missing: most of Aphex Twin, Goldfrapp, much of the Raconteurs, all of Sharon Jones

Saturday:
The Bird and the Bee 12:30-1:10
Uffie 1:30-1:40 (or until I run out of stuff to throw at her)
VHS or Beta 1:50-2:20 (why on the main stage? not a complaint, just a question because this is bizarre)
MGMT 3:40-4:05
Boys Noize 4:10-5:00
St. Vincent 5:20-6:10
Death Cab 6:30-7:00
Islands 7:10-8:00
Prince Portiswerk 8:10-end
missing: Animal Collective, M.I.A., Rilo Kiley, half of Death Cab, Akron/Family, Yelle

Sunday:
Stars 4:15-5:05
Gogol Bordello 5:30-6:05 (have to leave early because seeing Metric from far back is pointless)
Metric 6:15-7:05
Kid Sister 7:10-7:20
Sia 7:45-until she plays "Breathe Me"
Roger Waters 8:30-11:00
Justice 11:00-12:00
missing: SMD, Spiritualized, Sons & Daughters, Modeselektor

Asobi Seksu find new label for third album

According to Pitchfork, Asobi Seksu will "Stay Awake" and return to the studio to June to record their third album after some well-earned rest. Only this time under a new US label: Polyvinyl Records. Hopefully Polyvinyl will live up to their namesake and release the much-anticipated album on the format beloved by the band and fans such as myself: vinyl.

The only upcoming performance I could find is at the Norwegian Quart Festival, with acts such as Gnarls Barkley, Justice, Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, and...Cradle of Filth.
Jarvis Cocker, others to play Pitchfork Festival

From the horse's mouth:

Friday, July 18:
Pitchfork Music Festival and All Tomorrow's Parties present "Don't Look Back"
Public Enemy performing It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
* Mission of Burma performing Vs. *
+ one more to be announced

Saturday, July 19:
Animal Collective
* Jarvis Cocker *
!!!
Vampire Weekend
Dizzee Rascal
Fleet Foxes
No Age
* Jay Reatard *
* King Khan & His Shrines *
Atlas Sound
* The Ruby Suns *
* A Hawk and a Hacksaw *
* Occidental Brothers Dance Band International *
+ many more!

Sunday, July 20:
* Dinosaur Jr. *
Spiritualized
M. Oh, right, because it's pitchfork, so it has to be at least a little obnoxiously pretentious in everything it does. That wouldn't happen at Coachella. Still, a pretty good lineup. 3 day pass is $65, if not already sold out. It's a shame that airfare from Los Angeles is around $400. That isn't indietastic at all. If Outside Lands had booked some of these instead of the excess of bro and hippie, I wouldn't be searching for cheap airfare and researching being an air courier right now.

Aphex Twin, Goldfrapp, Redd Kross, Adele, FREE TRAIN RIDE added to Coachella 2008

APHEX TWIN AND GOLDFRAPP
AMONG ACTS ADDED TO LINE-UP!

NEW PREMIUM CAMPING ACCOMMODATIONS
AVAILABLE THIS YEAR

Aphex Twin and Goldfrapp have just been added to the
COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL 2008 bill.
Kate Nash, Serj Tankian, Redd Kross, and Adele have also joined the line-up
(see full list below) for this year's ninth annual festival set for
Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA.

In addition, based on the popularity of onsite camping, COACHELLA is now offering onsite lodging with premium tent accommodations. Two, four or six person tent packages include brand new tent accommodations ready for guest arrival. The comfort packages feature air beds with sleeping bag and pillows for each camper. Beyond the sleeping accommodations, campers in this special area will enjoy larger camping plots with more privacy, as well as access to upgraded amenities including deluxe showers and restrooms, complimentary breakfast buffet and adjacent parking. Various premium camping configurations range from the "Tent Hotel" to the "Safari Tent"-a fully furnished air-conditioned bedroom with an outside seating area. Additional details and prices for these camping packages is available at http://coachella.com/visitors/onsite-lodging.

Aphex fucking Twin? Wow. He never plays America. Ever. Wow.

And the news gets even better. This year, Goldenvoice and Amtrak have teamed up in a manner normally reserved for comic books to provide a FREE TRAIN departing Los Angeles Thursday afternoon, arriving in Indio, where shuttles will take the campers to the site. And the shuttles will take them back to the station Monday morning. They are creating a temporary train platform just for this. And did I mention that it doesn't cost us anything? More information and signup here

I would like to take this opportunity to take back any apologize to Goldenvoice for any expressed doubts and disappointments regarding the way things turned out this year. Sure, there's still a lot of "WTF?" lineup omissions (sometimes this is the band's fault, though, like My Bloody Valentine being flakey), fewer subheadliners, more repeat acts, and a higher number of acts I truly despise than usual (JACK JOHNSON), but despite all this, Coachella is still the best of all the American festivals announced so far. Why? Two things:
1. Rare/unique acts that other fests don't have (or nowhere else in America has) like Portishead, The Verve, Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, Goldfrapp, Fatboy Slim, Love & Rockets
2. Doing something really above and beyond like giving us free train rides and shuttles from LA to Indio. Paying $25 each way would have been a bargain, but free? Insanity.

Wes Anderson + Jarvis Cocker = ???

Not much info here, but:

Smokers held court on a packed pavilion outside. "It gives you a good excuse to leave a room," deadpanned Jarvis Cocker of Paris' new smoking ban. The lanky Britpop singer hinted at a project for an upcoming Wes Anderson film.

Maybe voiceover work for the upcoming The Fantastic Mr. Fox, or a soundtrack contribution? New songs are always welcome. But probably the former, since the film is not set for release until November 2009.

I'll give your fest the best review ever if you fly me out there! Worth a try, I know. Anyways, quite solid and no real "eww, wtf?" issues. I'm jealous that they get Beirut and R.E.M. and Coachella doesn't.

Apparently the Presidents of the USA are still alive? Wow. And there's a band called "Awesome"...

Tickets are available for an extremely low $150.50 until March 9. Then they go up in price.

More information at the official site

The Gorge Amphitheater appears to be a gorgeous venue for any show, the lineup is good, and the price is right. Wish I could be there.
