Global Warming and Environmental Issues

i decided to write this post because we had a assembly at school telling us, the students about Global Warming and Environmental Issues.

they used clips from Al Gore's "an inconvenient truth", great movie, you should really see it, i've seen it. and basically they talked about the problem with the environment which we all know but never really payed any attention.

in the movie, one of the most striking thing for me was the pictures taken a few decades ago of huge glaciers which seem impossible to melt because they are just HUGE, comparing to the pictures taken from recent years, and it is just shocking, absolutly shocking how much and glaciers have melted, stunning. you can check out some picture here: http://www.worldviewofglobalwarming.org/pages/glaciers.html

okay, to what i want to say. they talked about writing to the government, tell them that you want something done. they, the government knows the issues, they know full well the impact, you, we are not telling them anything they do not know! they know the problem, and they sure know how to solve the problems because the scientists are not stupid people, they don't get to where they are by being stupid.

but why don't they do something you ask? money, money!!! who are th real polluters of the environment? you? me? no! it's the big factories, oil companies, mining operations, and cars. now i'm not saying that you should do nothing about it, you can reduce your own environmental impact by using compact fluorescent light bulbs, walk, bike, take the bus, take the subway, carpool.

why don't you do the things that will save the environment? because we are lazy, we don't care about the future, we want comfort, we want to do whatever we want, and why don't care about what we do to the earth because we are not capable of seeing what's coming next. you might say "well i care about the environment and i do everything i can to save it!", yeah, cool, but how many people are not doing it and how many people are doing it? we, human race as a whole, never appreciates something until it's gone, we start saving animals when they are almost gone, what the hell where you doing earlier? oh, we didn't see that coming, or we didn't care about it because there's still 2000 of these animals left. the forests, we go so many trees we'll never cut clear them all right? wrong, trees that you can cut down in 5 minutes takes centuries to grow, but will it take centuries for us to cut down all the trees? at this rate, i don't think so, either does anyone else.

polar bears should really starting to learn how to breath under water, because they will be living under water soon.

so, writing to the government, that's completely, and entirely pointless, you know why? not because i don't want to save the environment, it's because it's useless, if the government wants to do something about it they would have already done a lot. they have the power to force companies to because green, use renewable energy, cut down on carbon emission, and contribute to environmental groups, but why are they not doing that? because the big companies pay taxes, a lot of taxes. being green is expensive, as you might know a compact fluorescent light bulb is 5 or 6 times the price of a regular incandescent light bulb. buy paying more to be green, companies make less therefore they will not pay as much tax and even move out of the country to another who doesn't care about environmental issues.

it's not just about the effort of you and me, not just about the effor of your country or my country, it's an effort of both you, me, your country, my country and all the countries on this planet, all the you and me's on the surface of this great planet, it has to be the effort of everyone who lives on this beautiful planet, our only home, only by involving everyone, and every government can we do something about the environment, and only then can we save our planet. but hey, who cares about our planet, who cares about the only place that we know of in this vast universe that hold our civilization, we got money!

comment? suggestions? i'd love to hear them. thank you for reading.
