Brandi Journal Entry!

Hey everyone,

We just got back from our tour with the Indigo Girls. I'm on yet another plane writing another long overdue journal entry. We had an amazing time and met tons of great people over the last few weeks. The whole situation was surreal especially for me as a fan of the Indigo Girls. Great friendships developed and there were so many fun musical collaborations, but mostly it was just pretty sweet getting into the Indigo Girls' concert every night for free. As the tour progressed a funny thing happened, I would be sitting down watching the show, watching my friends sing and suddenly they would start playing a classic Indigo Girls' song like "Power Of Two" and it would surprise me to remember I was on tour with them. Then I would laugh out loud confusing those around me. It ended up where the songs and the people became separate in a comfortable and familiar way. It was really nice because it took off all the pressure off playing my set in front of the Indigo Girls every night. I always wondered how that would work.

All the singing, playing and just talking music with Amy and Emily has really inspired me. Since I've been off the tour I've written two songs and I think one of them is here to stay. I've also been writing on piano for the first time since "Wasted" so we'll just have to see where this all goes. Phil did the majority of the driving on this tour in the van and he did a great job learning the bass parts for "Tried To Be True" and "Rock n Roll Heaven's Gate." I lost my luggage and wore "twin" clothes for two days and I flew home twice to meet my new niece. Tim did a rock kick during "Tried To Be True" in Minneapolis and helped me curl my hair every night. Josh bowled a 146 in Medford, OR, Emily gave Phil a lazy eye from stress and Alex made us go to the vortex in Oregon where objects appear taller or shorter than they are and marbles roll uphill.

Anyway, the tour was amazing and definitely up there as one of my best experiences on the road, if not the best. So thank you to Dave, Brian, Carla, Peter, Rick, Sully and of course Emily and Amy for making it so.

Looking forward to July (Joo ly) . We are doing a lot of fly-in festival type dates which I love. I'm really looking forward to Minneapolis, Chicago, Boston, San Jose and especially Atlanta. I'm going to see Band Of Horses next week at the Showbox and I'm also flying to Denver to see k.d. lang play at Red Rocks which means I'm just asking for a good dose of depression and feeling inadequate...I'm joking of course. But she's just so damn amazing it makes me want to take vocal lessons.

We need to focus a little more on how to lessen the impact our upcoming fall tour will have on the environment so we recently got involved with a non-profit organization called Reverb to help us plan a more environmentally sustainable tour. We will donate $.50 from each ticket sold for the tour to help offset the CO2 emissions our tour will generate. The money will help support Reverb's mission as well as NativeEnergy's family farm methane projects, which help reduce global warming pollution by reducing the amount of fossil fuels the farms themselves use for heat, cooling and electricity or by preventing emissions of methane gas from manure stored in lagoons. By helping build new clean and renewable energy projects with NativeEnergy, we''ll reduce CO2 pollution by helping change how power is made.

The emissions we'll offset include the venue's electricity, our bus and fans driving to and from our shows. We're offsetting the equivalent of having one car drive over 3,000,000 miles! For more info check Reverb out at www.reverbrock.org and NativeEnergy at http://www.nativeenergy.com/Splash/brandi/brandi.html?brandi

Touring, while virtually unavoidable for an artist like me, can be wasteful and bad for the environment so we're trying to find ways to lessen our footprint.

Thanks for caring about these little infrequent journal entries. See you somewhere soon...

XO Brandi
