I had been looking into getting a new camera for awhile now, however I also needed a new video camera, due to my current one being on it's way out. I have the Fuji F31d point and shoot camera, which is small and takes great pictures. As for video, I have the Sony DCR-HC32 Handycam, which can be a pain in the ass because it records onto DV tapes, which we all know you have to sit and rip in real time. No Thank you.

So I wasn't sure which one I wanted to upgrade. It proved to be a very tough decision.
If I was going to upgrade my video camera, I don't think I would have much trouble deciding which direction to go, I would just make sure it recorded into a format I was happy with. However, when I started to look into upgrading my point and shoot, that is when I started to have trouble. It's a whole new world, especially for me. I have only ever had point and shoot cameras, and obviously, if I were to make the jump, I would go with a Digital SLR. However, DSLR cameras don't have a video option and I was really looking forward to consolidating my gadgets. Well, now I can. I picked up the new Nikon D90, which has a 12.3 megapixel sensor and is the first DSLR to allow you to take high definition video at 720p. You can read more about it here if you're jealous, I mean interested.

I've been having a lot of fun playing around with it recently, it's a pleasure to use and I can't wait to learn more about it. Until then, here's a gallery of pictures I took for Halloween.

The last major festival of the year here in Taiwan is a national holiday. Double ten day commemorates the anniversary of the October 10, 1911 Revolution that led to the overthrow of the corrupt Ching Dynasty and the founding of the republic of China. It is marked with grand parades, folk dances, acrobatics, dragon and lion dances and displays of martial arts. Laura and I decided to skip all of that and take some time to get to see some more of the country. We covered a lot of ground and managed to take some interesting photographs. We travelled first to a beach resort in Tungshao, then to the mountains in Miaoli. Trekked our way over to Lion's Head mountain and journeyed through hot spring country to find us a free camping area. Check out some of the photos below.

The Black Cab Sessions is a series of one-song performances by musicians, with a twist. It's recorded in the back of a black cab, more so a hackney carriage. Most of the performances feature popular acts such as Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, and Damien Jurado. I was an immediate sucker for this. They've now done nearly 50 sessions, all posted on their Web site, so go ahead and check it out here.
