Flu vs. Serving

HPCC completed 32 out of 51 service projects all over the neighborhood yesterday for our Day of Serving. It's turned into the Week of Serving, and that's gonna stretch into the Month of Serving...And we couldn't be happier about it.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to be part of it, because I was slammed by the stomach flu. I started feeling bad at about 5:00 AM but went ahead and got all ready. I gave the staff a heads-up at 7:00. And at 8:00 I confirmed that I couldn't go. It's a good thing because at 8:15 things got ugly. Let's just say that if I would have tried to preach this morning, you would have never forgotten it. Fortunately my sermon was pretty short and I had it all written out. Dave pulled it off of my computer and did a good job of pinch hitting at the last moment. Thanks, Dave.

As for the Day of Serving...
Everyone loved it. They met needs, made friends, served together and loved our community. It was unusually chilly for this time of year, but I didn't hear one complaint. People were too excited about everything else. Lots of our teams were really touched by the people they met. One team helped a couple in their late 80's/early 90's who care for their disabled son and apparently don't have a lot of other help. Wow. I can't imagine that. I can't wait to hear more stories.

As for me, I'm much better today. I'm not puking, writhing, or getting the chills, so it's improvement. I did feel like I'd been hit by a mack truck, and I had the "old man walk" going for me today. I'm really sore & a bit faint, but improving. These times always make me thankful for the good health that I've had in my life.
