Cole is playing baseball this year and we are having a good time. It's all first graders and a coach pitches to his own team. I'm our designated pitcher. Tonight Cole was up & after he missed the first pitch, I reminded him to step towards me. As the catcher was getting the ball, Cole rehearsed his swing in slow motion. He continued to do so as the catcher got, threw it to me, and I waited. I hollered at him several times before he came out of his trance.
I looked up in the stands and saw Beth smiling & I just had this Dad moment where my sense of love for Cole overwhelmed me. I smiled & I could feel my heart warm. My next pitch wasn't even close to being hittable, so I had to calm myself down. He ended up hitting one pretty hard though the infield for a single.
It's amazing how our capacity to love increases as new people are added to our life. Beth added a whole new dimension of love in my life, and our boys have done the same thing. Even the two that we are waiting on have added this new love for me. And loving our next two won't detract from how much I love Beth and the boys. It's one of the beautiful things about love. And thinking about all of this makes me so grateful for God and his unfathomable love.
