Fellow U2 fans, Peter, Barry, Lane & Cole (we rock-out on the way to school) went with me. I'd forgotten how goofy those glasses look. A whole theater of people wearing ridiculous, orange glasses. It was great.
The film is concert that was filmed in Buenos Aires. It felt like I was at the end of one of those camera arms that swings through the crowd.
In the first moments I was surprised to see Bono standing right next to where I was sitting. He was right there. And then someone in front of me put their hands up. I was trying to lean over so I could see around them & looked to see who it was. Then I realized no one was sitting in front of me. It was the movie. A bit later Cole was leaning over the seat in front of us trying to grab the microphone. It was pretty cute.
From an entertainment standpoint, I'd give it about a 9 out of 10. But since I've done nothing but listen to U2 stuff over the past week, maybe it deserves higher.
U2 is tough to figure out sometimes. They had a little section encouraging people to "coexist." It made me a bit uncomfortable because it could be viewed as lumping all belief systems into the same pot. But upon further thought, I think it was more of a political statement. A call for people of different beliefs to all get along. I have no problem with that.
Lane said it well when he said, "I love that at least Bono is really trying." And that's true. He is trying to do something beyond just entertain. His passion for fighting against poverty, disease & oppression is admirable. I've been inspired by it, and I think countless others have been to. He talks about Jesus a lot, and sites tons of Scriptures when he addresses both political and religious leaders. He does his homework and it seems like Scripture is close to his heart. I need to get his book and read it because he does intrigue me. Maybe that can go on "need to read" shelf.
Anyway, if you have a chance to see it, go for it. It's pretty amazing & only rated G. Not many "cool" movies are rated G.
