Tickets have been selling-out like crazy, so we got ours a few days ago and then got to the theater over an hour before showtime so we could get good seats. I can't imagine sitting on the front row & trying to watch the three-story screen.
The word "dark" is definitely appropriate. I think PG-13 was probably generous due to the dark elements, yet at the same time there wasn't any gratuitious violence, and I can't remember a single curse word. But the movie is intense for just about the entire 2 1/2 hours. And just when you think you can take a breather, you'd better buckle-up. There was one scene that our entire row jumped, which made me laugh. There was another scene that had us all uncomfortably squirming for what seemed like hours.
The filmography was spectacular & seeing it at the I-Max added to the experience. I'm pretty sure at one point it was me and not Batman riding on his motorcycle. The musical score was also really, really good.
As for the much-talked-about Heath Ledger. We was much more sinister than Jack Nickolson. Freaky, Creapy, Dark & Twisted would be words to use that I'd describe him. And I certainly couldn't deny that it wasn't amazing acting.
There was the typical Marvel Comics' themes of good vs evil. One line that I noted, speaking about The Joker, went something along the lines of, "There are some men who can't be reasoned with. They are not logical. They aren't in it for the money. They just want to see the city burn."
The movie is not one that I'd want to watch very often, but I'm glad I saw it. And the time I got to spend with friends before and after the movie is really what made the night worthwhile.
