I recently completed something that took a lot of work for me.
I recognized a few months ago that I wasn't not filling my head, heart & soul with enough of God's Word. Memorizing Scripture has probably been the primary way that God has spoken to me in my life. I believe that when we memorize God's Word, we give God permission to remind us of it throughout our day. I recognize that I better reflect Jesus when I'm absorbing God's Word so well that it's memorized.
Because I had gotten lazy & was having trouble moving forward, I decided that I needed to ask for help. I asked someone whom I deeply respect to give me some memory assignments and to hold me to it. He has done this, and I really appreciate it. I've also told my wife and few friends about it, so they've held me accountable too. It's really been beneficial.
I was given two major assignments, and I just finished the first. It comes from the Gospels. I guarantee you that Jesus spoke these words much more eloquently than I do. I doubt he was stuttering, having long pauses, and backtracking when he spoke, but this is how I get through. Now the task is to not lose it. Wish I had one of those steel trap minds, but I don't.
God's Word is living and active. I'm so appreciative of that - and I'm also often amazed & challenged by what his Living Word is speaking to me.
