singer/songwriter david lamb, cellist jerusha robinson, and multi-instrumentalist jeremy robinson, known as the dark americana trio brown bird, have brought subtly disturbing lyrics dressed in soothing harmonies to those who will listen since 2003. their sound ranges from simple sea-shanty style folk to complex counterpoints with an eastern european flavor. their influences of indie rock, classical music, and old american hymns rise and fall within their songs like whitecaps on a dark and stormy sea.
this march they went into the studio with peapod recordings founder and engineer ron harrity to record as much spontaneous music as possible within two days. the trio recorded over ten hours of material which was later edited down to just over an hour of improvised songs. the result is the first in a series called the map room sessions, and will be released with a book of polaroids taken by photographer mandy lamb. the group is also preparing for its last tour for 2007, a two week trip through the midwest in november, before retreating into the studio for pre-production on their second full-length release.
