What's up

Well not to much really. I've been out and about playing gigs and such which have been fun. Next one is up in Birmingham on the 21st Mark @ the island bar, then some around Brighton.

Start rehersals after Easter with the extended calika live set up (band). This will include drums, bass, computer and maybe guitar but don't expect it to sound like a band. I really want to push the electronic aspect of my sound but in the context of a band style set up.
Should be ready for festival season so keep your eyes peeled.

I've also done some remixes recently. One for Phononoir and one for Uzi & Ari. You can check out the Phononoir one here:

http://www.myspace.com/phononoirremixed

Both will be available as hard copy releases but I'm unsure when.

Also working on a track for a dancing turtle records compilation. It will be a download (itunes) release as far as i know with the possiblilty of vinyl later. DTR are a lovely little label which i've been aquainting myself with over the last month. Do check them out here :

www.dancingturtle.co.uk/

Also a few things i've been listening to recently. I'm sure you've heard most if not all of them but they are what's floating my boat at the moment:

Acoustic Ladyland - Skinny Grin (V2)
Autistici - Volume Objects (12k)
ÓLAFUR ARNALDS - Eulogy For Evolution (anything on erased tape records is alright by me at the moment. they are knocking out some gems)
Favourite Places Volume 1 - Various Artists (Audiobulb)
Rival Console - The Decadents EP (Erased Tape)
Autechre - Quaristice (Warp)
Mandelbrot - CDR (highpoint lowlife I presume)
Mississipi Witch - Black Gamble (Colony Productions) Couldn't believe this was on colony, but it's good. must be branching out abit. i think all labels are doing this, trying to make some money, whilst still trying to release music that's true to them. not easy.

see ya

So I've finally got round to organising a launch party. it's in lovely old brighton at the greenhouse effect on the 18th October. MAndelbrot is kindly agreed to play as well as local band sustatika.

come down and join in, it's gonna be a whole heap of laughs.

simon

p.s. i just found out that the collaboration album i've done with mark clifford (our second) is out on the 29th Oct. It's called 'Khartik' and is more stripped down than 'Running Taper'. Still very beautiful I think.

Album Out

So the album is now officially out, or came out yesterday to be precise. It is available from a whole host of outlets, but by far the best is audiobulb where it is of way better value. Only £7 i think (that's even cheaper tha buying it from Tesco online). I'm sorry but i don't have any copies to sell so go see Audiobulb. It's also available for download from lots of places both legal (emusic, itunes, juno records etc) and illegal (i'll let you find that yourselves if you feel so inclined).

Reviews have been very good which is always a relief, (don't believe anyone who says they don't care about reviews, they do).

Got some great one liners, even with a reference to squarepusher, justified or not i'm not sure but very very cool ;-)

"an immersive and impressive experience" - Clash Magazine

"Ranging from soothing atmospheric intros to highly complex rhythm
structures, this CD offers all a listener can ask for" - Phosphor

".... Kealoha merging Squarepusher-like bravado with the type of
rambunctious post-rock attack commonly practiced by Run_return." - Textura

in other news i'm contributing a track to the lovely little label TSUKU BOSHI, for a free download compilation they will be releasing through their label for christmas.

you'll also have to check Phon°noir's new album to which i have made a small contribution. 'The objects don't need us' is an absolute beauty of an album, and it is great to have been a tiny part of it. It's will be available through Sub Rosa in late october. I've also just completed a remixes for one of the tracks 'Gullholmen' which will be available as a limited edition cdr release. you have to check out the video for 'my paperhouse on fire' so good. http://www.phononoir.de/

that's it for now, so go buy the album.

Take care

Seedling mother and me

Can't believe it is so long since i did the last blog, time really does fly when your having fun.

Well, seedling mother is out 10th sept which is very exciting. the artwork (profile photo) looks unbelievable. a real curet classic.Reviews have come in already, one from vital weekly and one for the next issue of clash magazine. both have been positive so i'm well pleased. Reviews are quite a funny thing, i try to pretend that i don't care aboiut them but really i do. it's nice when people are nice about something you've worked s hard on and it's shit when they aren't. Still all good so far.

The clifford/kealoha release out on polyfusia is to be called 'mausim'. that's all off for mastering and should be out just before christmas.

I'm getting married on the 14th sept and my birthday is on the 7th so the start of september is gonna be very hectic indeed. i've also been bought some pretty cool presents seeing as it is my 30th. i get to do a tandum sky dive and get to drive a bloody great tank around for an afternoon. how cool is that.

any how, take care all and go buy my album when it comes out

Hello, Video Anyone?

Hello all. Hope you are all well.

Is there anyone out there who would like to have a go at making a video for one of the tracks on my upcoming album for Audiobulb 'Seedling Mother'. As you might guess there is no money in this but if you have some spare time and think you might be up for it i'd love to see what comes out of it. email me at simon(at)or-this.com for details.

Check the audio player as there are some unreleased tracks on there including a remix i've done for the mighty He Can Jog which will be available through Audiobulb as a free download. It will include 3 remixes i did for him and 3 that he did for me. Including a vocal version of 'Quarter Smile' from my last album 'Small Talk Kills Me'

Also if you are browsing the magazines at the local corner shop, check out the kind words thorsten sideb0ard wrote about me in the latest clash magazine.

peace out.
