26 years old and living in portland, oregon for now. I am a fan of music (listening to and creating it myself), movies, reading, conversations, eating, gadgets, history, photography, pens that write well, memo pads, and chicken cooked just about every way. Oh, and i was born in mississippi.

some observations from a new guy

ok, some recent thoughts
well, i went to my first venue since moving here to portland a few weeks ago. i was alone as i am generally going to see bands play. no biggie. but, with that comes the usual where do i stand? am i in that guys way? what the hell is he/she thinking? ...that kind of stuff.

i arrived at this particular venue and being used to having to drive at least an hour and a half, i got there about an hour before i should have. i ordered a coke and sat down. these are some observations i made while waiting.....

"i have come alone and sat myself in the largest booth i can find. I am a seat glutton."
-(what is funny is that the place became packed and not one person sat by me. ha. i guess we all get uncomfortable with our space.)

"I think that some people hide behind their beards. i never was good at growing facial hair. left me without a choice."

"first impressions are everything. honestly, first impressions are usually bullshit."

"interesting, i always feel out of place no matter how many of these things i attend. like i am out of rotation with the rest of the world. like i am one and they are many. in actuality, i think everyone here may feel this way. maybe why we all keep to ourselves . socializing is a funny thing. we are funny people.

finally, i realized that being close to what you love is not nearly the same as doing what you love.

great show, great venue, cool people. good night.
