Caverns plays instrumental rock music. You read me right...no vocals, no rhymes, no words. In an industry fundamentally based upon the idea that a song has to have a good hook for it to be a single, and a single has to be a hit for an album to sell, this might seem like an unwise move. Maybe it is. However, if you listen to any of the five tracks on Caverns' debut e.p., "Sing Along", you may find that you don't miss the catchy hook, the soaring bridge, or the throat shredding scream. In fact, you might be glad that this band lets the music do the talking.
Unlike many other instrumental bands, content to repeat single melodies with infinite variations over bloated 10 minute songs or who wallow in the atmosphere provided by the factory settings of their synthesizers, Caverns strives to create music that is concise but dynamic. From the melodic and atmospheric intro to "Dancing with the Stars" to the epic conclusion of "This Are Syntax", Caverns experiments with styles ranging from Jazz to Hardcore to Middle Eastern inflected music, but does so without ever abandoning a central and discernible sound. Caverns recorded "Sing Along" with J. Robbins in the winter of 2007. Look for the e.p. out in Fall 2007 courtesy of Lujo Records.
