Peter, Björn, John, Fujiya, Miyagi, et al: The Report

Tuesday night held a concert I had anticipated for some time now. Peter Bjorn and John rocked the shit out of the Webster Hall stage in front of a capacity crowd. Maybe it was the people I met, maybe it was the rounds that were consumed, or maybe it was the energy on stage, but for some reason or another I had more fun last night than I have had at a concert in a very long time. Continue reading...

Hot Chip Broke My Legs, Snapped Off My Head

Five synths never made a white boy dance like this before. Brit electro-pop phenoms Hot Chip took the stage of Webster Hall to a sold-out crowd on Friday night, and the audience was bumpin'. After an initial set by Tussle, an electronic quartet hailing from San Francisco featuring two drum sets, the boys from Hot Chip took stage at about 8:45 and played pure brilliance for about two hours. The night featured a plethora of songs - a few off of their 2006 record, The Warning, but also included some older songs and several brand new unreleased tracks. Continue reading...

Ratatat at Webster Hall

The floor shook, smoke was poured over the stage, and abstract images graced the back screen. Today, your body is bruised from being elbowed too many times, your ears are still ringing, and you are still on an emotional high from having the time of your life. If this sounds like you, you were most likely at Ratatat's killer concert at Webster Hall last night. Continue reading...

Rodrigo y Gabriela Rock Webster Hall

Some people find instrumental music dull. Repetitive. Bland. To those people I must say: Go see Rodrigo y Gabriela. The duo played rock music via classical guitars with no lyrics for nearly two hours Monday night at Webster hall, but the evening was anything but boring.

Stars - Do You Trust Your Friends?

Music is a precious, precious thing. Not only that - it's personal. After painstakingly slaving over new lyrics and catchy tunes, one may cringe at the idea of somebody altering their new baby. Not so for Stars, the indie rockers from Toronto, as they have allowed a number of bands to remix and cover songs off of Set Yourself on Fire, their 2005 breakthrough record. The re-invented songs will appear on Do You Trust Your Friends?, set for release May 22nd on Arts & Crafts, featuring remixes from very talented cats Final Fantasy, Montag, The Russian Futurists, along with fellow Broken Social Sceners The Dears, Metric, and Apostle of Hustle, to name a few.
